Lam Legal - Trial Lawyers
Vancouver
About Us
Lam Legal – Trial Lawyers is a growing Vancouver civil litigation firm. We handle commercial, estate, construction and personal injury files, and we run a close-knit, drama-free office where people are trusted to own their work.
We are hiring an Administrative / Legal Assistant – a blended role for someone who wants to move beyond pure admin into real legal work. You will support our lawyers on active files, keep the office running, and docket your own time the way a paralegal does.
Legal Support
- Prepare, format and file pleadings, applications, affidavits and chambers records.
- Track limitation dates and court deadlines, and maintain lawyers' calendars.
- Coordinate examinations for discovery, mediations, IMEs, expert appointments and trial bookings with clients and opposing counsel.
- Draft and manage correspondence with clients, counsel, experts and the courts.
- Assist with document production and organizing lists of documents.
- Open, maintain and close files, and keep the file system clean.
Docketing Your Time Like our paralegals, you are a timekeeper. Your work is billed to clients, so you record it as you go.
- Enter your own time in CosmoLex throughout the day, in 0.1-hour units, against the file you are working on – reviewing an email 0.1, drafting a letter 0.3, a call with a client 0.2.
- Write clear, specific descriptions a client would understand if they read the invoice.
- Keep your docket current daily rather than reconstructing it at month end.
- Ask when you are not sure which file your time belongs to. We would far rather you ask than guess.
This is timekeeping, not bookkeeping. You will not be doing accounts receivable, chasing invoices or reconciling trust – our billing team handles all of that.
Office Administration
- Greet clients, set up the boardroom, and handle overflow reception calls.
- Manage mail, couriers, scanning and filing.
- Order supplies and keep the workrooms stocked and tidy.
What We're Looking For
- 1 to 3 years of experience as a legal assistant, paralegal, law clerk or administrative assistant in a professional-services setting.
- You have docketed your own time before, in 0.1-hour units against client or matter files – in a law firm, or somewhere else that bills time such as an accounting firm, agency or consultancy. We will train you on CosmoLex, so you do not need our software specifically, but recording your time as you go should already feel normal to you.
- Strong organizational skills and real attention to detail.
- Clear, professional written and verbal communication.
- Comfortable with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) and Adobe Acrobat.
- Able to juggle competing requests and re-prioritize calmly.
- Reliable, punctual, and happy to be in the office five days a week.
Nice to Have (Not Required)
- Legal Administrative Assistant or paralegal certificate, completed or in progress.
- Familiarity with BC Supreme Court filing and e-filing procedures.
- Experience with CosmoLex, PCLaw, Clio, Soluno or similar time and billing software.
- Civil litigation background – commercial, estate, construction or personal injury.
- A second language, particularly Cantonese, Mandarin or Punjabi.
What We Offer
- $48,000 per year on a 35-hour week – 9:00 to 5:00, with a full hour for lunch. No evenings, no weekends, no on-call.
- Extended health and dental coverage.
- Free on-site parking.
- Paid time off and casual dress.
- A real path forward.
We support Legal Administrative Assistant and paralegal certificate studies and promote from within.
- A small, supportive team where your work is visible and valued.
