Senior / Architect – Revenue Recognition & Billing Systems (SAP Integration)

Overview

We are implementing a new billingsystem that must accurately calculate, recognize, and report revenue into SAP. We are looking for a senior/architect-level resource with deep expertise in revenue recognition and finance reporting to design and govern the revenue architecture for this program. This role sits at the intersection of Finance and IT, ensuring the current billing platform is built to produce revenue outcomes that are accurate, auditable, and compliant with accounting standards, and that data flows correctly and reconciles cleanlyinto SAP.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead the end-to-end architecture and design of revenue recognition logic within the new billingsystem, including deferred revenue, contract modifications, and multiple performance obligations.
- Define the integration architecture between the billingsystem and SAP (FI/CO, RevenueAccounting and Reporting, and/or BRIM), covering data flow, timing, and reconciliation.
- Translate ASC 606 / IFRS 15 revenue recognition requirements into functional and technical design specifications.
- Partner with Finance, Accounting, Controllership, and IT teams to validate revenuetreatment across billing scenarios (new contracts, amendments, cancellations, usage-based charges, bundles/promotions).
- Design and review interfacespecifications (IDocs, APIs, BAPIs, middleware) for revenue and billing data exchange with SAP.
- Establish and oversee reconciliation processes between the billing sub-ledger and the SAP general ledger, including month-end close support.
- Provide architectural governance acrossthe program: reviewdesigns for scalability, data integrity, auditability,



and SOX/internal controls compliance.
- Support SIT/UAT test strategyand execution for revenue reportingscenarios, including edge cases and exception handling.
- Proactively identifyrisks and gaps related to revenue leakage,reporting accuracy, and financial controls, and drive remediation.
- Produce clear documentation of data mappings,business rules, and technical designsfor audit and knowledge transfer.
- Act as subject matter expert on revenue recognition and finance reporting, mentoring other architects/analysts on the program.

Required Skills & Experience

Revenue Recognition & Finance Reporting

- Working knowledge of ASC 606 / IFRS 15 revenue recognition standards, applied in a real implementation (not just theoretical).
- Experience with deferred revenue,contract assets/liabilities, revenuewaterfalls, and multiple-element/performance-obligation accounting.
- Understanding of finance closeprocesses: month-end/quarter-end close,journal entries, sub-ledger to GL reconciliation.
- Familiarity with internalfinancial controls and SOX compliance requirements for revenuereporting.

SAP& Systems Architecture
- Hands-on experience with SAP FI/CO; direct experience with SAP RevenueAccounting and Reporting (RAR) strongly preferred.
- Experience with SAP BRIM (Convergent Invoicing/Charging)



or similar billing-to-SAP integration patterns is a strong plus.
- Experience architecting integrations between billingplatforms (e.g., Zuora,Amdocs, CSG, Salesforce Billing, or custom billing systems) and SAP.
- Solid understanding of data integration methods: IDocs, APIs, BAPIs, ETL, and middleware
- Strong SQL and data analysisskills to trace revenue data through complexsystem-to-system flows.

Program & Leadership Skills
- 10+ years of experience in finance systems,revenue/billing systems, or financial reporting roles.
- 5+ years operatingat a senior/architect/lead level on billing or revenue systemimplementations.
- Proven ability to translatebetween Finance stakeholders and technical teams, and to challenge/validate requirements from both sides.
- Strong documentation, stakeholder management, and communication skills.
- Experience with Agileand/or Waterfall deliverymethodologies on largesystems programs.

Preferred Qualifications

- Bachelor's degreein Accounting, Finance,Information Systems, or a relatedfield.
- SAP certification in RAR, FI, or relatedmodules.
- Experience in telecom or subscription-based billingenvironments (usage-based billing,recurring revenue, plan changes).
- Prior experience on large-scale billingtransformation or ERP revenue module implementation programs.

What SuccessLooks Like

- Within the first 6 months, this person has established a transparent, documented revenue recognition architecture for the new billing system; validated it against Finance's requirements and applicable accounting standards; and built reliable, reconciled data flows into SAP that the finance team trusts for month-end close and audit.
