Job Title: Assistant Manager, Financial Management

Location: Markham, Ontario

Job Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Assistant Manager, Financial Management to support the Bank’s financial management and control activities. This role is responsible for key areas including accounts payable and payment controls, budgeting and cost management, financial analysis, procurement support, policy administration, and process improvement.

The successful candidate will work closely with departments across the Bank to ensure expenditures are properly reviewed and controlled, budgets are effectively planned and monitored, and financial policies and procedures are consistently applied. The role will also contribute to financial reporting, cost optimization, automation, and operational efficiency, supporting sound financial management and decision-making across the Bank.

What You Will Do

- Review invoices, receipts, payment requests, and supporting documentation to ensure accuracy and compliance with the Bank’s policies and applicable approval limits.
- Review and provide appropriate sign-off on journal entries in the Financial Management System (FMS) relating to payments, employee reimbursements, and fixed assets.
- Support financial reviews of projects and procurement activities, including monitoring expenditures and identifying unauthorized or non-compliant spending.
- Interpret and support the implementation of cost management, payment, and expense policies across the Bank.
- Provide guidance to employees regarding payment and reimbursement processes, documentation requirements, and applicable policies.
- Coordinate and support the Bank’s annual and project-specific budgeting processes,



including historical spending analysis and collaboration with business departments.
- Perform budget-to-actual and variance analysis, investigate significant variances, and provide relevant financial insights.
- Analyze financial and spending data to identify cost trends, financial risks, and cost-saving opportunities.
- Provide backup support for fixed asset management, including records relating to acquisitions, depreciation, and disposals.
- Support procurement review and governance processes, including reviewing procurement submissions, coordinating due diligence activities, organizing review meetings, preparing meeting minutes, and communicating review outcomes.
- Draft, review, and update financial management policies and procedures, assessing their continued alignment with internal requirements, organizational objectives, and applicable governance standards.
- Identify and implement opportunities to improve reporting automation, data accuracy, and operational efficiency, with a focus on reducing manual processes.
- Prepare financial analysis, management reports, and supporting materials to facilitate management decision-making.
- Support other financial management initiatives and ad hoc assignments as required.

What You Bring to the Table
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Economics, or a related discipline.
- At least 3 years professional experience in financial management,



accounting, accounts payable, budgeting, cost management, or financial analysis, preferably within banking or financial services.
- Strong understanding of payment controls, expense management, budgeting, variance analysis, and financial control processes.
- Experience supporting procurement processes, fixed asset management, or financial policy administration is considered an asset.
- Strong financial analysis and numerical skills, with excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and the ability to analyze, reconcile, and present financial data effectively.
- Experience with financial management systems, ERP systems, or accounting systems is preferred.
- Robust organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to provide guidance and work effectively with cross-functional stakeholders.
- A proactive approach to cost control, process improvement, reporting automation, and operational efficiency.
