Assistant Superintendent – Multifamily Construction

We are seeking an Assistant Superintendent to join the site team on an approximately 200-unit multifamily residential development in Calgary.

Working alongside the Site Superintendent, the Assistant Superintendent will be responsible for day-to-day field coordination, subcontractor management, quality control, safety, sequencing, and maintaining construction progress.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Assistant Superintendent or Field Coordinator looking to take on significant responsibility on a major multifamily project and continue progressing toward a Superintendent position.

Key Responsibilities

- Assist the Superintendent with daily management and coordination of construction activities.
- Coordinate subcontractors, suppliers, deliveries, equipment, and site logistics.
- Monitor daily construction progress against the project schedule.
- Help develop and maintain short-term look-ahead schedules.
- Conduct regular site walks to monitor workmanship, productivity, safety, and quality.
- Coordinate trade sequencing to minimize conflicts and maintain workflow.
- Identify field conflicts and work with the Superintendent, Project Manager, consultants, and subcontractors to resolve them.
- Assist with site layout, logistics, access, material storage, and housekeeping.
- Review drawings, specifications, shop drawings, and RFIs to ensure work is constructed correctly.
- Maintain accurate daily site reports, photographs, and construction records.
- Assist with quality control inspections and deficiency tracking.




- Coordinate inspections with consultants, authorities, and third-party inspectors.
- Support implementation and enforcement of site safety requirements.
- Assist with suite turnover, common-area completion, deficiency correction, and occupancy preparation.
- Monitor subcontractor manpower and productivity and escalate potential schedule impacts.
- Participate in subcontractor and site coordination meetings.
- Support the Superintendent in maintaining a professional, organized, and productive job site.

Qualifications

- 3–7 years of construction field experience, preferably within multifamily residential or commercial construction.
- Previous experience on wood-frame, concrete, or mixed-construction multifamily projects is an asset.
- Strong understanding of construction drawings, specifications, sequencing, and trade coordination.
- Ability to identify construction issues and communicate effectively with subcontractors and project management.
- Knowledge of Alberta construction and safety requirements.
- Experience with Procore, Bluebeam, Autodesk Construction Cloud, or similar construction software is an asset.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced site workplace.
- Diploma or certificate in Construction Management, Architectural Technology, Engineering Technology, Carpentry, or a related field is an asset.
