About the Insurance Council The Insurance Council of British Columbia is the regulatory organization that licenses and regulates the activities of over 50,000 life and general insurance agents, general insurance salespersons, insurance adjusters, and restricted travel insurance agents in British Columbia.
The Opportunity The Associate Investigator is responsible for conducting straight forward investigations of licensees and applicants. The associate investigator may help on more complex initiatives and conduct simple on-site inspections of licensee business practices.

Who We’re Looking For The ideal candidate is responsible for assisting in investigations of licensees, applicants and inspecting licensee business practices.
Responsibilities
- Support investigations by gathering and analyzing information and recommending courses of action.
- Conduct inspections as assigned and report outcomes.
- Conduct interviews and research, take statements, inspect records, and document evidence in an admissible manner and in accordance with the standards of fairness.
- Prepare investigation reports and draft correspondence.
- Administrate investigation and inspection files, including opening and closing files, recording evidence, and logging activities.
- Respond to complainants, licensees, and other parties verbally and in writing, explaining Council’s jurisdiction and action taken in regard to an investigation.
- Liaise with Council staff, and legal counsel.
- Testify as required.
- Remain current on industry issues, practices, legislation, and regulation through media and industry publications, education, and professional development.
- Assist other investigators or the manager as required.
Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum two years of experience in similar capacity and post-secondary education in a related field such as business administration, or equivalent.
- Proficiency in MS Office desktop applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Conflict resolution and negotiation skills.
- Demonstrated analytical and good judgment skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work with several concurrent tasks, and the flexibility to work with changing priorities and deadlines.
- Ability to obtain information and establish rapport.
- Insurance or financial services education and experience is an asset.
Hiring Range: $67,094 – $70,000 per annum.
Placement within this range will be determined according to the candidate’s relevant experience, qualifications, and demonstrated competencies.
