About The Role
Join Systemex Automation as Automation Project Engineer, and help lead the growth of a technical team specialized in industrial automation, robotics, and control systems programming.
You will engage and develop talent, plan priorities, ensure deliverable quality, and support complex projects that meet high standards for performance, safety, and client satisfaction. You will also help shape the technical direction of solutions, standardize PLC, HMI, and robotics programming practices, and drive continuous improvement across ways of working.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, engage, and develop the programming and robotics team to support performance, collaboration, and skills growth.
- Plan priorities, allocate resources, and coordinate workload based on schedules, budgets, and operational needs.
- Provide technical oversight for PLC and HMI programming and robotic cell development using platforms such as Allen-Bradley, Omron, ABB, and other relevant technologies.
- Define, standardize, and improve best practices for programming, commissioning, documentation, and automation system validation.
- Support the team in solving complex issues, conducting root cause analyses, and implementing robust, sustainable solutions.
- Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, software, and project management teams to ensure smooth systems integration and efficient project execution.
- Contribute to control architecture, industrial communication strategies, and technical direction for robotics and automation projects.
- Ensure deliverable quality, successful FAT/SAT testing, commissioning, industrial safety compliance, and alignment with clients and internal stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Degree in electrical engineering, automation, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in industrial automation, PLC programming, and systems integration.
- Demonstrated experience leading technical teams, coordinating resources, mentoring, and supporting talent development.
- Solid proficiency with at least two major PLC platforms, with solid understanding of HMI, SCADA, robotics environments, industrial networks, and commissioning practices.
- Strong leadership, organization, judgment, analytical thinking, communication skills, and ability to manage multiple projects in a multidisciplinary, client-, quality-, and results-focused environment.
- Proficiency in French is mandatory. Proficiency in English is also required in order to communicate effectively with internal clients and partners located outside of Quebec.
