The Opportunity
Garrison Curling Club is seeking experienced, dependable bartenders to join our Food & Beverage team for the upcoming curling season.
Garrison is a busy six-sheet curling facility and a welcoming gathering place for our members, league curlers and guests. Our season includes regular league play as well as bonspiels, tournaments, banquets, private functions and special events. The bar and lounge are an important part of the club experience, and our bartenders help create the friendly, community-focused atmosphere our members value.
This position is well suited to someone looking for consistent part-time hospitality work with regular evening or weekend shifts. Students with relevant experience are encouraged to apply, as are experienced hospitality professionals looking to complement another job or commitment.
Position Overview
Our bartenders provide skilled, welcoming food and beverage service throughout regular club operations and special events. The role includes traditional bar service along with food and snack bar service, point-of-sale transactions, stocking, and opening and closing responsibilities.
Many regular shifts are worked independently, with the bartender taking responsibility for the bar and food service area during their shift. For that reason, dependability, sound judgment, organization and the ability to work confidently without direct supervision are essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide prompt, friendly and professional service to members, guests and event clients
- Prepare and serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages accurately and responsibly
- Take food and beverage orders and process transactions through the POS system
- Provide food and snack bar service during regular club operations
- Maintain a clean, organized, stocked and welcoming bar and service area
- Complete assigned opening, closing, cash-handling and end-of-shift procedures
- Maintain working knowledge of available food and beverage offerings
- Support service during league play, bonspiels, tournaments, banquets, private functions and special events
- Follow all AGLC requirements, ProServe standards, food-safety practices and club procedures
- Communicate operational concerns and service needs to the Food & Beverage Manager
Schedule & Commitment The club operates from approximately 9:00 AM to midnight, depending on the curling and event schedule. We are hiring for a combination of regular weekday evening and weekend shifts:
- Weekday evenings: approximately 4:30pm-12:30am
- Weekend morning/day shifts: approximately 9:30am-3:30pm
- Weekend afternoon/evening shifts: approximately 3:00pm-11:00pm
- Additional hours may be available for bonspiels, banquets, private functions and special events
Applicants are not expected to be available for every shift. We are looking for individuals who can commit to specific recurring shifts each week and provide reliable availability throughout the curling season.
Qualifications
- Previous bartending, serving or hospitality experience strongly preferred
- Valid ProServe certification required prior to the first shift
- First Aid Certification is considered an asset
- Demonstrated reliability, punctuality and ability to work independently
- Strong customer-service and interpersonal skills
- Comfortable handling cash, processing payments and using a POS system
- Ability to remain organized and provide consistent service during busy periods
- Professional judgment and confidence when managing a shift independently
- Availability to commit to regular weekly shifts throughout the season
- Flexibility to assist with occasional events or additional shifts is an asset
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift or move beverage and food supplies as required
