As the Body Repairer Apprentice, you will work under the supervision of the Body Shop/Welding Shop Supervisors and are responsible for assisting in a variety of duties including: performing damage and corrosion repairs to Transit buses and equipment, fabricating vehicle and equipment components and inspecting vehicle interior and exterior fittings and performing repairs as required.
As the Body Repairer Apprentice,you will:
- Assist in repairing and/or replacing the following: vehicle (bus) body parts and components, sheet metal and fiberglass panels, automotive glass, such as windshields, passenger windows and mirrors.
- Assist in repairing vehicle interior fittings such as passenger seat mounting frames, stanchions, flooring, etc.
- Assist in design and fabrication of custom sheet metal components.
- Assist in performing bench layout work for the manufacture of sheet metal vehicle and building components and parts.
- Perform other related duties consistent with the classification, as required.
Your education and qualifications include:
- High School graduate or equivalent combination of training and experience
- Able to enroll in the Body Repairer Apprenticeship Program within 1 year. Successful applicants are required to complete the Body Repairer Apprenticeship Program.
- Related experience in:
design and fabrication of custom sheet metal components; bench layout work of sheet metal vehicle and building components; repair and/or replacement of vehicle body parts and components, sheet metal and fiberglass panels, automotive glass and of vehicle interior fittings.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Ability to adhere to the Respectful Workplace Standard.
Conditions of employment:
- Must maintain legal eligibility to work in Canada. If the successful applicant possesses a work permit, it is their responsibility to ensure the permit remains valid.
- Must possess a complete set of hand tools required for the position.
- Applicants must possess and maintain a valid Manitoba Class 5 Driver’s License in positive standing and will be required to attain Class 2 through in-house training, within a time frame determined by management.
- Must be physically capable of performing the routine manual labour components of the position, which may include but not limited to: heavy lifting (up to 100lbs), maneuvering within or around large equipment, exposure to extreme weather conditions, noise, dust, diesel exhaust fumes and chemical agents used in the mechanical field.
