About BUILD

BUILD Inc. is an Indigenous non-profit social enterprise and paid training program in Winnipeg. Since 2006, more than 1,000 people facing barriers to employment have built construction skills and launched careers through BUILD. Our program combines hands-on experience with employment, cultural and wrap-around supports.

The role

This relationship-centred, case-management-style role supports trainees to address barriers, remain engaged in training and move toward employment and longer-term goals. You will manage a caseload, provide one-on-one and wrap-around support, participate in intake and retention, maintain accurate records, facilitate short group sessions, support Indigenous cultural programming and coordinate external cultural supports.

What you will do

Provide one-on-one support. Build trusting relationships, hold regular check-ins and develop practical, participant-led support plans with assigned trainees.

Coordinate wrap-around services. Connect trainees with housing, income, food, transportation, family, health, wellness, substance use, justice, education and employment supports, and follow up on referrals.

Support intake and retention. Participate in information sessions, interviews, assessment, orientation, case conferencing, re-engagement and program transitions.

Facilitate group sessions. Plan and deliver a small number of practical sessions or workshops for trainees and, when assigned, community groups on culture, wellness, life skills, community connection or other approved topics within your knowledge and role.

Support culture and community connection. Coordinate culture-based activities and work respectfully with Elders, Kookums, Knowledge Keepers,

cultural facilitators and community partners.

Maintain accurate records and data. Complete timely case notes, update plans, enter intake and outcome data, track referrals and maintain secure files.

Work with sound judgment. Collaborate with BUILD staff, protect confidentiality, maintain professional boundaries and connect qualified supports when needs are outside your role.

What you bring

- Relevant education and experience in case management, social work, Indigenous studies, community development, human services, counselling support or a related field. This may include a relevant certificate or diploma plus at least one year of experience, or at least three years of comparable experience.
- Experience providing individualized support to people facing multiple barriers, including experience supporting people who have interacted with criminal justice, correctional, parole or probation systems.
- Robust knowledge of Indigenous histories, cultures and contemporary realities, together with cultural humility and respect for diverse nations, teachings and experiences.
- Knowledge of Winnipeg-area Indigenous and community services and the ability to build effective referral relationships.
- Demonstrated experience planning and facilitating engaging group sessions or workshops for trainees, community members or similar audiences.
- Strong listening, advocacy, collaboration, de-escalation and professional-boundary skills.
- Excellent case-note writing, organization, data-entry and file-management skills, with confidentiality, accuracy and comfort using Microsoft 365 or program databases.
- A valid Manitoba Class 5 driver's licence,

ability to travel locally and willingness to complete the required Child Abuse Registry Check processes.

Assets

- Indigenous identity, lived experience, community relationships, cultural knowledge and/or an Indigenous language.
- Established relationships with Winnipeg service providers, Indigenous organizations, cultural supports or justice and reintegration partners.
- Training or experience in trauma-informed practice, motivational interviewing, mental health first aid, suicide intervention, non-violent crisis intervention, harm reduction, employment training, social enterprise or correctional reintegration.

Why work at BUILD

- Make a direct difference in trainees' stability, connection to training and movement toward lasting employment.
- Work with a team that brings together training, employment, cultural and wrap-around supports.
- Help strengthen community partnerships and a program grounded in dignity, accountability, relationship and Indigenous culture.
