Equinox Gold is currently inviting applications for a Supervisor, Security to join our growing team as the company ramps up mine operations and production.
Position Summary
Reporting to the Health, Safety & Training Manager, the Supervisor, Security is responsible and accountable for all security functions across the mine site, providing leadership for the protection of personnel, assets, infrastructure, and operations. This position oversees the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of site security programs, access control systems, and security risk management processes to ensure a secure and secure working environment.
The Supervisor, Security will supervise the contracted security services, ensuring the delivery of security programs and services in a timely and cost-effective manner while aligning with site objectives, regulatory requirements, and corporate standards. This role will be an active member of the security team on-site.
This position is located at the Mine Site, working on a 14 days in/14 days out rotation.
Accountabilities/Responsibilities
- Provide daily direction and supervision for the site security team and all security-related activities.
- Develop, implement, and maintain site security policies, procedures, and standards to protect personnel, assets, facilities, and information.
- Provide input into the development annual security budgets and forecasts.
- Establish, execute, and monitor daily, weekly, and longer-term security plans and initiatives.
- Conduct ongoing security risk assessments and regularly review threats, vulnerabilities, and mitigation strategies to support operational continuity.
- Maintain site access control, surveillance, asset protection, and visitor management programs.
- Coordinate security activities with Health & Safety, Emergency Response, Human Resources, Operations, and external agencies to support site-wide objectives.
- Lead investigations into security incidents, theft, vandalism, unauthorized access, and other security-related events, ensuring appropriate corrective actions are implemented.
- Develop, review, and approve security procedures, security audits, and contractor security requirements.
- Supervise the security team and contracted security personnel, including workforce planning, training, performance management, succession planning, and employee development.
- Manage performance by setting clear expectations and ensuring employees have the tools, resources, and training required to perform their duties safely and effectively.
- Ensure compliance with applicable legislation, corporate security standards, site policies, and regulatory requirements.
- Demonstrate ownership and accountability for site security through leadership in risk assessments, incident investigations, emergency preparedness activities, and security awareness programs.
- Monitor security service contracts and monitor department expenditures to ensure cost-effective security operations.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives related to security systems, processes, technology, and team effectiveness.
- Foster strong working relationships and maintain effective communication across all departments to promote a culture of safety, security, and continuous improvement.
- Support site emergency response planning, training, exercises, and business continuity initiatives.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education And Experience Required
- High School Diploma or equivalent required; post-secondary education in Security Management, Criminal Justice, Emergency Management, or a related field is considered an asset.
- Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in security, law enforcement, military,
emergency response, or industrial security, including at least 3 years in a Supervisory role.
- Experience conducting investigations, security risk assessments, emergency response coordination, and managing security personnel and contractors.
- Experience developing procedures and monitoring relating to the production of high value goods/precious metals.
- Professional security certifications (e.g., CPP, PSP, CSM) and experience in the mining, industrial, sectors are considered assets.
Skills And Knowledge
- Strong supervisory and organizational skills with the ability to create and maintain a positive, security-conscious work environment.
- Strong daily work planning and risk management skills with the ability to identify, assess, and mitigate security risks.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, coupled with sound judgment and attention to detail.
- Thorough understanding of physical security, access control, surveillance systems, investigations.
- Strong knowledge of security management principles, incident prevention, threat assessment, and regulatory compliance.
- Self-motivated, safety-focused, and capable of making effective decisions in high-pressure situations.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize multiple tasks and manage competing priorities in a dynamic operational environment.
- Strong project management and continuous improvement skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with employees, contractors, leadership, and external agencies.
- Proven ability to lead investigations, prepare reports, and maintain accurate documentation.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and security-related reporting systems.
