Band 6 £42,027 to £51,207 pro rata per annum

14 hours per week

Who are we?

St Andrew’s Hospice is a registered charity providing specialist palliative care for patients with life-limiting conditions which require complex symptom management, and/or end-of-life care. It is Lanarkshire's specialist hospice and provides multidisciplinary support for patients, their families and carers. The service is provided completely free of charge for the adult population of North and South Lanarkshire and is open to all without distinction of race, gender or creed.

What is the role?

You will be based at St Andrews Hospice in Airdrie and may require to visit schools, health care settings or other agencies within the Lanarkshire area.

You will provide emotional, practical and therapeutic support to children and young people who are experiencing grief following the death of a family member or significant person in their lives. The role involves assessing needs, delivering age appropriate bereavement support either within a group setting or on a one-to-one basis, offering family support within the inpatient unit and working collaboratively with families and professionals to ensure a trauma informed, nurtured and evidence based approach is offered to help support the children and young people we work with.

What we expect of you?

- You will have a recognised qualification in social care, community education, childhood
- You will have a valuable awareness of GIRFEC and Child Protection procedures
- You will have significant experience of supporting children previously, either within a school, social work or community setting
- Be familiar with trauma informed practice and have knowledge of the impact of trauma on children’s development
- Provide social, emotional and psychological support to children




- Co-ordinate and facilitate both group and one-to-one support for children and young people
- Carry out initial assessments of children prior to group or one-to-one work being undertaken
- Work with children and their families within the Inpatient Unit
- Liaise with various professionals to offer advice regarding children experiencing anticipatory grief and bereavement
- Ensure relevant and up to date information about the Children’s Service is shared with appropriate agencies
- Support primary caregivers by helping families understand children’s grief responses at different developmental stages
- When appropriate, participate in multidisciplinary meeting
