Clerical Assistant, Advanced Diagnostics Research Laboratory

The Advanced Diagnostics Research Laboratory provides state of the art, high complexity cancer diagnostic and monitoring laboratory services for Saskatchewan cancer patients. Through the integration of research and clinical activities, the ADRL responds to the evolving needs of patients and clinicians in the province by developing current assays essential for emerging companion diagnostics, supporting clinical trials and training highly qualified personnel.

Primary Purpose: To provide administrative support to the Advanced Diagnostic Research Laboratory (ADRL) including sorting and accessioning lab samples, correcting and faxing medical reports, maintaining databases, filing and performing general office duties.

Nature of Work: Reporting to the ADRL Laboratory Manager, this position carries out general administrative duties as directed. Once fully trained, work will be expected to be performed without direct supervision. The ADRL is not a public-access facility, therefore few general reception activities will be required. This position will be privy to personal and patient information and requires strict compliance with applicable laws and policies governing confidentiality.

Typical Duties or Accountabilities:

- Sorts and accessions incoming laboratory specimens.
- Make corrections to medical reports as directed.
- Faxes finalized medical reports.
- Performs medical report filing and retrieval
- Creates and maintains laboratory databases using Microsoft Excel
- Keeps laboratory documents up to date:
- Updates laboratory documents
- Maintains a master document index
- Maintains filing system/archives

- Provides general office support

Education:

Medical Administrative Assistant Diploma is required.

Experience: Minimum of 3 years’ experience accessioning laboratory samples and related administrative support, data entry and database management. In-depth understanding of medical terminology is required. Experience with Microsoft Office products is required.





Candidates will be asked to complete a skills test to assess Excel proficiency and data-entry capabilities.

Skills: Ability to work effectively with minimal guidance and to maintain confidentiality.

Salary: The salary range, based on 1.0 FTE, is $24.74 - 31.37 per hour. The starting salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
