Clinical Assistant / Physician Assistant

Location: Etobicoke, Ontario

Clinic: Famcare Medical Clinic

Employment Type: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: $25.00 per hour

Work Location: In person

About the Role

Famcare Medical Clinic is seeking a capable and compassionate Clinical Assistant or Physician Assistant to support physicians in a busy family practice and walk-in setting.

The successful candidate will have previous experience performing a similar clinical role in a medical clinic and be able to work confidently with minimal supervision. Strong interpersonal skills, clear communication, professionalism, and excellent patient rapport are essential.

International Medical Graduates are welcome to apply. Preference may be given to IMGs who have passed relevant Canadian qualifying examinations.

Responsibilities

- Greet, assess, prepare, and room patients with empathy and professionalism.
- Obtain and document vital signs, height, weight, BMI, waist circumference, and other relevant measurements.
- Perform phlebotomy and prepare specimens for laboratory processing.
- Conduct ECGs, urinalysis, swabs, rapid tests, point-of-care testing, and vision or hearing screening, as trained and authorized.
- Administer vaccines, vitamin B12, and other prescribed injections under appropriate authorization and within demonstrated competency.
- Assist with dressing changes, wound care, and suture or staple removal, where trained and authorized.
- Review and update medication lists, allergies, and relevant medical history.
- Prepare examination rooms and ensure they remain clean, disinfected, properly stocked, and ready for use.
- Support physicians with chart preparation, forms, referrals, requisitions, recalls, and follow-up activities.
- Assign and flag results, messages, and documents appropriately in Juno EMR according to clinic protocols.




- Provide patients with clear instructions and help coordinate specialist appointments, diagnostic testing, and community services.
- Communicate professionally with patients, families, physicians, pharmacies, laboratories, and other healthcare providers.
- Maintain accurate documentation and comply with PHIPA, infection prevention and control, cold-chain, and workplace safety requirements.
- Assist with front-desk and administrative duties when required.

Qualifications and Skills
- Previous experience as a Clinical Assistant, Physician Assistant, or in a comparable clinical support role in a family practice, walk-in clinic, or ambulatory care setting is strongly preferred.
- Competence in phlebotomy/venipuncture is important for this position.
- Strong interpersonal, listening, and verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent patient rapport and the ability to communicate with empathy, sensitivity, and cultural awareness.
- Able to work independently with minimal supervision while recognizing when physician input is required.
- Organized, dependable, professional, and attentive to detail.
- Able to prioritize effectively and remain calm in a busy clinical environment.
- Experience with injections, ECGs, specimen collection, point-of-care testing, and basic wound care is an asset.
- Familiarity with Juno EMR is an asset; training can be provided.
- Current CPR/BLS certification and appropriate immunization records are preferred.




- Relevant clinical education or healthcare training is required.
- International Medical Graduates are encouraged to apply; preference may be given to candidates who have passed relevant Canadian medical examinations.
