The Department of Pediatrics at McMaster University and McMaster Children’s

The Province of Ontario Neurodevelopmental (POND) Network is a collaborative research network dedicated to improving outcomes for children,
youth, and families affected by neurodevelopmental disorders through innovative clinical research. The McMaster POND site conducts a diverse portfolio of observational studies and investigator-initiated clinical trials involving children and youth with neurodevelopmental conditions, including autism spectrum disorder and ADHD.
The Clinical Research Coordinator will join a collaborative academic research team of clinician-scientists, psychometrist, and trainees to coordinate both regulated clinical trials and non-trial research. The successful candidate will contribute to all phases of the research process, including study start-up,
participant recruitment, regulatory activities, and data management, while working across multiple innovative research subprojects. This role offers the opportunity to develop expertise in pediatric clinical research within a dynamic academic environment while contributing to research that advances evidence-
based care for children and families.
Job Summary:
Responsible for implementing, monitoring, refining, analyzing, coordinating, and reporting on several clinical research projects. Acts as a resource for the development of protocols, study documents, operations of study management, and management techniques.
Purpose and Key Functions:
- Apply specialized knowledge and scientific principles to review, critically appraise and interpret published literature.
- Write sections of scientific papers, funding proposals, and abstracts.
- Coordinate the activities of research staff and resources to ensure that the project progresses in accordance with predetermined timelines.
- Develop estimates of time and resources for research projects.
- Oversee the collection, entry, verification, management, analysis, and reporting of data.
- Use statistical software to analyze data and interpret results.
- Design and maintain databases, data collection forms, error checking methods and related programs for efficient collection, analysis, and reporting.
- Troubleshoot moderately complex computer problems.
- Write data management and operations documentation for projects.
- Liaise between the clinic centre and remote clinic sites and personnel.
- Conduct structured patient interviews.
- Ensure that the relevant research methodology is applied and all research material is handled in accordance with established protocols, policies, and procedures.
- Participate in the development of promotional strategies and related materials to encourage participation and support for research projects.
- Consult on protocol development, student organization, and data management activities.
- Develop presentations and present information and training sessions to project personnel and project patients.
- Present at meetings, seminars, and conferences.
- Keep project participants informed of project progress through regular reports and newsletters.
- Implement and maintain research project budgets. Create financial projections and make adjustments to research project budgets throughout the fiscal year.
- Exercise appropriate controls, monitor, and reconcile accounts. Conduct literature searches.
Supervision:
- Provide lead hand supervision and is responsible for the quality and quantity of work of others.
- Ongoing responsibility for supervising up to 9 casual employees at any one time. Provide orientation and show procedures to others.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field of study. Requires 4 years of relevant experience.
Additional Information:
- Experience coordinating clinical research studies, including both regulated clinical trials and observational or longitudinal research.
- Demonstrated knowledge of research ethics, participant recruitment, informed consent, and data management.
- Experience working with children, youth, and families, particularly those with neurodevelopmental conditions (e.g., autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, intellectual disability, or related conditions).
- Experience administering standardized clinical or research assessments is considered an asset.
- Knowledge of REDCap and electronic data capture systems, with strong database management and organizational skills.
- Familiarity with regulatory requirements governing clinical research, including experience with Good Clinical Practice (GCP), Health Canada Division 5 regulations, and research ethics submissions.
- Completion of, or willingness to complete before delegation of regulated trial activities, the following training:
- TCPS2: 2022 – Course on Research Ethics
- Good Clinical Practice (GCP)
- Health Canada Division 5
- Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR)
- Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG)
- Excellent organizational, communication,
and interpersonal skills with the ability to coordinate multiple studies simultaneously and work effectively within an interdisciplinary team.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and maintain a high level of accuracy and attention to detail. This is an 8-month temporary position with the possibility of extension or renewal
