Coffee Roaster / Coffee Packer
Job Summary
We are seeking a reliable, hardworking, and detail-oriented Coffee Roaster / Coffee Packer to join our coffee roasting and production team. This hands-on role supports the complete roasting and packaging process, from preparing green coffee and operating roasting equipment to weighing, sealing, labelling, and organizing finished products.
The successful candidate will help ensure every batch of coffee is roasted consistently, packaged accurately, and prepared on schedule for our café locations, wholesale customers, and retail orders. This position requires strong attention to detail, physical capability, cleanliness, organization, and a commitment to following established recipes, production procedures, and food-safety standards.
Previous coffee-roasting or food-production experience is an asset; however, training may be provided to a dependable candidate who demonstrates mechanical aptitude, a willingness to learn, and a genuine interest in coffee.
Responsibilities
Coffee Roasting and Production
- Roast coffee according to approved roast profiles, production schedules, and quality standards
- Prepare and stage green coffee for scheduled production runs
- Accurately weigh green coffee before roasting and record batch information
- Monitor roasting equipment, temperature, timing, airflow, and other production variables
- Observe the colour, aroma, development, and consistency of roasted coffee
- Follow established procedures when cooling, transferring, and storing roasted coffee
- Maintain accurate roasting logs, batch records, inventory records, and production documentation
- Identify inconsistencies or quality concerns and report them promptly
- Assist with roast-profile testing, sample roasting, cupping, and quality evaluations when required
- Coordinate production priorities with management, café teams, and order-fulfilment staff
- Help ensure production targets and order deadlines are met without compromising quality
- Follow all procedures for preventing cross-contamination and maintaining product traceability
Coffee Packing and Order Fulfilment
- Accurately weigh roasted coffee according to established package sizes
- Fill, seal, label, date, and package coffee for retail, wholesale, online, and café orders
- Verify that each product has the correct coffee, grind, weight, label, roast date, and packaging
- Operate coffee grinders, weighing scales, bag sealers, labelling equipment, and other packaging machinery
- Inspect coffee bags, valves, labels, and seals for quality before products are released
- Grind coffee to the appropriate setting when required for customer or café orders
- Assemble wholesale and internal café orders accurately and efficiently
- Pack completed orders safely for storage, pickup, or delivery
- Maintain clear identification and separation of different coffees and roast batches
- Report packaging shortages, damaged products, equipment issues,
or order discrepancies
- Assist with receiving, organizing, and storing packaging materials and production supplies
Inventory and Warehouse Support
- Assist with inventory counts for green coffee, roasted coffee, packaging, labels, and production supplies
- Monitor stock levels and communicate when products or supplies need to be reordered
- Rotate coffee and packaging materials using first-in, first-out procedures where appropriate
- Maintain accurate identification, dating, and storage of all coffee products
- Move coffee bags, boxes, bins, and production materials safely throughout the facility
- Organize roasting, packing, and storage areas to support efficient workflow
- Help receive deliveries and confirm quantities and product condition
- Assist with preparing products for transfers to café locations or wholesale customers
- Minimize product loss through careful measuring, handling, storage, and documentation
- Record waste, damaged packaging, rejected batches, and production variances as required
Cleaning, Maintenance, and Safety
- Clean roasting equipment, grinders, scales, packaging equipment, work surfaces, bins, and storage areas
- Complete daily, weekly, and scheduled cleaning tasks according to established procedures
- Remove chaff and coffee residue safely and regularly to reduce fire and equipment risks
- Perform basic equipment inspections and report unusual sounds, wear, malfunctions, or safety concerns
- Follow manufacturer instructions and workplace procedures when operating roasting and packaging equipment
- Maintain a clean, organized, and food-safe production environment
- Follow proper lifting, material-handling, personal protective equipment, and emergency procedures
- Comply with all workplace health and safety, food-safety, sanitation, and quality-control requirements
- Participate in training, safety meetings, and continuous-improvement initiatives
- Perform other related production, warehouse, and roasting duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Previous experience in coffee roasting, coffee production, food manufacturing, packaging, or warehouse operations is preferred
- Knowledge of coffee-roasting principles, roast development, or quality evaluation is considered an asset
- Experience operating production machinery, packaging equipment, or food-processing equipment is an asset
- Robust attention to detail and ability to follow recipes, roast profiles, measurements, and written procedures accurately
- Basic math skills and confidence weighing products and recording production information
- Ability to maintain accurate batch, inventory,
and quality-control records
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Comfortable working independently while also contributing to a collaborative production team
- Reliable, punctual, and able to maintain consistent attendance
- Able to prioritize tasks and meet production deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Willingness to learn about green coffee, roasting methods, blends, origins, grind settings, and quality standards
- Strong communication skills and willingness to report mistakes or quality concerns promptly
- Commitment to cleanliness, food safety, workplace safety, and product quality
- Mechanical aptitude and confidence learning to operate specialized equipment are considered assets
- Forklift certification is an asset but is not required unless operating a forklift is assigned
- Passion for coffee and an interest in specialty coffee culture are strong assets
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and move throughout the majority of the workday
- Ability to bend, reach, crouch, twist, and perform repetitive packing and production tasks
- Ability to safely lift and carry coffee bags, boxes, and supplies weighing up to approximately 50 lb
- Ability to work around hot equipment, moving machinery, coffee dust, noise, and strong aromas
- Ability to use appropriate personal protective equipment when required
- Manual dexterity to operate scales, controls, grinders, sealers, and labelling equipment
- Ability to work safely and remain attentive while completing repetitive or time-sensitive tasks

Experience

Licence/Certification
- Forklift Licence is considered an asset
