Job Location: Remote

Salary Range: The expected base salary range for this position is $53,000.00 - 68,000.00

The Opportunity

This purpose of this position is to review, analyze, and evaluate commercial property and liability business at all transactional touchpoints to determine risk level by using different methods of investigation. Working within a team setting, the incumbent will provide calculations for policies and support to our broker force. The incumbent must evaluate policies based on acceptability of risk with a focus on reducing claim exposure while promoting new business and retention for the company.

Supports the technical development of support staff within the underwriting department through training and mentorship

Active working relationship within the property underwriting lines

Develop working relationships within all other underwriting lines

How You Will Create An Impact

Working knowledge of construction, occupancy, protection, exposures relating commercial risks

Working knowledge in underwriting package classes of business

Working knowledge in underwriting non-package classes of business, requiring support in areas of more complex risks

Working knowledge of common Commercial Liability exposures including appropiate risk identification, assessment, loss control and underwriting processes

Working understanding of exposure base of commercial fire rate and liability rate methodologies and ability to complete complex rate workup

Some understanding in the use of Xrate, Urate and manual rating methodologies

Working knowledge of Commercial property risk management including typical property risk exposures in low to medium hazard commercial property occupancies requiring support for high hazard commercial property

Working knowledge in reading and interpreting all relevant policy wordings, including Commercial General Liability, Business Interruption and Umbrella liability relevant to commercial business wordings

Some understanding on reinsurance products, specifically those available, as well as the necessary processfor facultative cession, a working knowledge of restrictions and provisions of reinsurance treaty

Working knowledge of relevant regulations, including the Insurance Act and applicable building codes

Some understanding of the financial statements

Efficiency in the use of Policy Administration system for all policy transactions and solid understanding of item coverage structure and rate and rule operation





Understanding of the broker distribution channel, the various tools utilized by the broker and the process interaction between insurer and broker

What You Will Bring

Completion of Post-Secondary Education

Successful completion, or pursuing industry related designations is an asset

1-2 years relevant experience

Great organizational skills and ability to multitask is required

Thorough attention to detail is a must to ensure accuracy of policy documents

Ability to perform moderate mathematical calculations is required

Effective communication skills: verbal, non-verbal and written

Sound morals, ethics, and confidentiality with ability to develop trusting and effective working relationships with peers, employees and business partners

Strong computer literacy, proficiency in all Microsoft Office programs and Internet navigation
