Job summary

This position provides paralegal support for the lawyers in the Edmonton office to meet client needs and transactional deadlines.

Responsibilities cover all aspects of commercial transactions and include the preparation and review of documents for such matters. Our ideal candidate has drafting and practical experience from working in a busy commercial practice. This candidate is self-motivated and highly organized, has superior computer, proofreading and time management skills and excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

They must be able to work independently under the supervision of a lawyer, follow instructions with minimal supervision and thrive in a dynamic, professional team environment.

Responsibilities include:

- Managing all stages of commercial financing (including borrower or lender; purchase or sale transactions; refinancing, etc.) files from start to finish
- Managing all incoming and outgoing funds, including calculating and requisitioning funds for closings, mortgage financing and other requirements
- Reviewing, preparing and filing transactional documents, including transfers, mortgages, agreements, leases, subdivisions for filing at Alberta LTO, trust letters, refinancing and sale and purchase contracts
- Conducting due diligence searches (e.g. land titles, property tax, zoning, bankruptcy) and summarizing results




- Organizing closing schedules and managing funds for closings and mortgage financing
- Drafting correspondence, preparing statements of account and statement of adjustments and handling client communications
- Producing timely reports for clients and lenders

Qualifications include:

- Graduate of a recognized legal assistant or paralegal program (equivalencies may be considered)
- Five years of experience working with commercial transactions with a good working knowledge of commercial lending transactions
- Advanced computer skills including in Word, Excel, Outlook and document management software
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills including proofreading, spelling and grammar skills
- Strong organization skills, exceptional attention to detail and the ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines
- Ability to follow instructions with minimal supervision and thrive in a fast-paced, professional team environment
