POSITION: Communications Coordinator
Full-Time The Compassion House Foundation operates Sorrentino’s Compassion House, a home-away-from-home for women who must travel to Edmonton for cancer treatment. At Sorrentino’s Compassion House, we make it our mission to support women fighting cancer by providing protected, comfortable, affordable accommodations, shuttle service to medical appointments, and in-house wellness activities. Since opening in 2002, over 2400 women from more than 326 communities across Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Yukon, Northwest Territories and beyond have found a haven at Sorrentino’s Compassion House.
POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Communications Coordinator supports the goals of Compassion House Foundation through two connected areas of work: creative marketing and communications, and fund development and engagement support.
On the creative side, this role develops and produces internal and external communications that raise awareness, strengthen engagement, and attract supporters. The right candidate is a storyteller at heart, with the ability to convey messages that connect with audiences and inspire action across digital, print, media, and event-related channels.
On the fund development and engagement side, the Communications Coordinator works closely with the Manager of Philanthropy to support donor communications, event-related activities, database maintenance, donor and prospect research, list preparation, segmentation, receipting, and reporting. This work helps ensure outreach, stewardship, and fundraising activities are well coordinated, timely, and grounded in reliable information.
QUALIFICATIONS
· Education: Undergraduate degree from an accredited College or University in a related field, or a combination of comparable skills and experience.
· Graphic Design,
Public Relations, Communications and/or Marketing.
Experience
· 2+ years of related work experience (communications, marketing, fundraising, or public relations) preferred
· Proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator), Canva, and modern content creation workflows
· Strong working knowledge of Microsoft 365 (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint/OneDrive, and Teams)
· Experience with email marketing and CRM tools (e.g., donor databases), including list hygiene, segmentation, and A/B testing basics
· Experience using social media management/scheduling tools and platform-native publishing (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn), including paid boost/ads coordination as needed
· Experience updating websites using a CMS (e.g., WordPress or similar), including basic formatting and image optimization
· Comfortable working with analytics and reporting (e.g., GA4, Meta/LinkedIn insights) to track performance and inform recommendations
· Basic photo/video capture and editing for digital channels (short-form video an asset)
· Experience writing media materials (press releases, pitches, backgrounders) and coordinating with media contacts
· Previous experience working for a not-for-profit organization is an asset
Abilities
· Donor- and guest-centered storytelling skills, with strong interviewing, editing, and brand-voice consistency
· Strong digital writing and editing skills (web, email,
social), with working knowledge of SEO best practices and content optimization
· Ability to plan, execute, and measure integrated campaigns (awareness, fundraising, events), translating goals into timelines, deliverables, and reporting
· Confidence using AI-assisted tools for drafting, brainstorming, and repurposing content with appropriate human review, fact-checking, and confidentiality safeguards
· Understanding of accessibility and inclusive communications (e.g., plain language, captions/alt text, and basic WCAG-informed practices)
· High attention to detail, excellent organization, and the ability to manage multiple priorities with minimal supervision
· Strong judgment, discretion, and professionalism when handling sensitive and confidential information
· Excellent interpersonal skills; able to work independently and collaboratively with staff, volunteers, donors, partners, and media
· Calm, solutions-focused approach in fast-moving environments; able to adapt quickly and communicate clearly
· Experience coordinating vendors/contractors (design, print, photo/video) and maintaining consistent quality standards
Pay: From $25.00 per hour
