As a member of the kitchen team, the Cook (Casual) is responsible for providing safe, nutritious, and high-quality meal services for patients, families, staff, and Hospice visitors. The role requires the ability to work both independently and collaboratively, while consistently following established procedures, food safety standards, and policies.

Role Includes:

- Performs cooking duties for patients, families, and staff.
- Liaises with patients and/or clinical staff regarding food preferences and dietary needs.
- Prepares meals for family members and staff as time permits; processes billing and receives payment for meals served.
- Plans and prepares meals, baked goods, and other items that can be frozen for future use.
- Assumes additional catering duties at the hospice in consultation with the Executive Director (e.g., meetings).
- Contributes to ordering and maintains accurate inventory records of food supplies.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Kitchen Manager.

Job Requirements:

- Minimum grade 12 education or equivalent.
- Demonstrates respect and sensitivity in dealing with patients, guests and staff.
- Maintains patient and family right to privacy, dignity and confidentiality.
- Knowledge and Technical Abilities: Demonstrates nutritional knowledge and is proficient in kitchen skills.
- Flexibility and Creativity: Ability to be organized,



creative and versatile in adapting to changing needs.
- Demonstrates ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Functions effectively as part of a team to achieve optimal results.

Shifts:

- Casual, with the successful candidate able to ideally pick up a MINIMUM of three scheduled and/or short shifts in a three month period.
- Day shifts are from 7am – 3pm
- Evening shifts are from 2:30pm – 7pm
- Shifts include weekdays and weekends

Preferred Experience:

- Previous experience in a kitchen environment is preferred.
