Company Description The University of Toronto Mississauga (UTM), founded in 1967, has grown from a small campus into the second-largest division of Canada’s largest university. Role Description The Coordinator of Indigenous Programming is a full-time, on-site role based at the University of Toronto Mississauga in Mississauga, ON. The coordinator develops, implements, and evaluates Indigenous-focused programs, workshops, and events that support Indigenous learners and enhance campus-wide engagement with Indigenous perspectives. This role collaborates with students, faculty, staff, and community partners to create welcoming spaces, foster cultural knowledge-sharing, and promote inclusive academic and co-curricular experiences.
Day-to-day responsibilities include planning and coordinating events, liaising with Indigenous communities and organizations, managing program logistics and communications, and maintaining accurate records and reports. The coordinator also supports student outreach and advising related to Indigenous programming, contributes to awareness initiatives,
and works with campus units to ensure programming aligns with institutional priorities and commitments to Truth and Reconciliation.
Qualifications
- Candidates should possess strong Communication skills, including explicit written and verbal communication, active listening, and the ability to engage diverse audiences with sensitivity and respect.
- Candidates should possess Programming skills related to designing, coordinating, and evaluating educational, cultural, and community-focused initiatives, with an emphasis on Indigenous-focused programming.
- Candidates should possess Customer Service skills, including a student-centered approach, responsiveness, and the ability to provide supportive, culturally informed service to learners, colleagues, and community members.
- Candidates should possess Event Planning skills, including coordinating logistics, managing timelines and budgets, collaborating with vendors and partners, and overseeing on-site delivery of events and activities.
- Candidates should possess strong Organization Skills, including attention to detail, time management, record-keeping, and the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively.
- Relevant knowledge of Indigenous cultures, histories, and contemporary issues, particularly in the Canadian context, and experience working with Indigenous communities or organizations.
- Experience in post-secondary or community-based student services, programming, or outreach, preferably in roles supporting equity-deserving or Indigenous populations.
