Role Description

The Criminal Defence Lawyer will provide legal representation to clients facing criminal charges, from initial consultation through to resolution or trial. Day-to-day responsibilities include advising clients on their rights and options, conducting legal research, drafting factums and other court documents, negotiating with prosecutors, and appearing in court and virtual hearings.

The lawyer will analyze evidence, develop defence strategies, and maintain clear, timely communication with clients and colleagues. This is a full-time role,



and the successful candidate will be expected to attend the Niagara Detention Centre, regularily, and will be expected to retain their own clients.

Mentorship from senior defence counsel, David Protomanni, will be provided.

Qualifications

- Solid foundation in Law and Criminal Law, with demonstrated expertise in Criminal Defence Law with 1-3 years of experience, specifically in criminal law;
- Proven experience in Criminal Defense practice, including client advocacy, case strategy, and courtroom representation;
- Excellent legal Research skills to analyze statutes, case law, and procedural rules;
- Licensed to practice law in Ontario and in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario;
- Prior experience handling a broad range of criminal matters;
- Exceptional written and oral advocacy skills, including drafting legal documents and presenting arguments in court;
- Strong analytical, negotiation, and problem-solving abilities, with sound professional judgment;
- Commitment to ethical practice, client-centered service, and maintaining confidentiality.
