Position Summary The Customs Coordinator will be responsible for overseeing customs documentation, border clearance activities, and compliance requirements for cross-border shipments. The ideal candidate will possess solid knowledge of Canadian and U.S. customs regulations, import/export documentation, and transportation operations. This role requires proactive communication with customs brokers, drivers, carriers, government agencies, and customers to ensure timely and compliant freight movement.

Key ResponsibilitiesCustoms & Cross-Border Operations

- Coordinate and monitor the customs clearance process for all cross-border shipments.
- Ensure all import and export documentation is complete, accurate, and submitted on time.
- Liaise with customs brokers, freight forwarders, carriers, and government agencies to facilitate efficient border crossings.
- Review commercial invoices, bills of lading, certificates of origin, and other customs-related documents.
- Resolve customs delays, inspections, holds, and clearance issues promptly.
- Track shipments through customs and provide real-time updates to operations teams and customers.
- Maintain compliance with CBSA (Canada Border Services Agency) and U.S. Customs & Border Protection (CBP) requirements.

Compliance Management
- Ensure compliance with customs regulations, trade agreements, and transportation laws.
- Monitor changes in customs regulations and communicate updates to internal stakeholders.
- Maintain accurate customs records and documentation for audit purposes.
- Support internal compliance initiatives and customs audits.
- Assist in managing duty, tax, and tariff-related documentation.

Communication & Customer Service
- Serve as the primary point of contact for customs-related inquiries.
- Communicate proactively with customers regarding clearance status and shipment updates.
- Work closely with dispatch, operations, customer service, and drivers to prevent border delays.
- Coordinate with brokers and customs officials to address discrepancies and compliance concerns.





Reporting & Administration
- Generate customs and border crossing reports for management review.
- Maintain shipment records, clearance data, and compliance documentation.
- Analyze recurring customs issues and recommend improvements to enhance operational efficiency.
- Assist with SOP development and process improvements related to customs operations.

QualificationsEducation
- Diploma or Degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Transportation, International Trade, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.

Experience
- Minimum 1-2 years of experience in customs coordination, customs brokerage, freight forwarding, logistics, or cross-border transportation.
- Experience managing Canada-U.S. cross-border shipments is required.
- Experience working with customs brokers and regulatory agencies.

Technical Knowledge
- Strong understanding of:
- CBSA regulations and customs clearance procedures.
- U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) requirements.
- Import/export documentation.
- NAFTA/USMCA/CUSMA trade agreement requirements.
- Border crossing and customs compliance procedures.
- Proficiency in transportation management systems (TMS), customs software, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience using Fleet Manager, BorderConnect, ACE, ACI eManifest, or similar platforms is considered an asset.

Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) designation is considered an asset.
- Knowledge of bonded freight and customs warehousing processes.
- Experience in truckload, LTL, and expedited freight operations.

Pay: $50,000.00-$55,000.00 per year
