Cyber Security Analyst - TravCan

About TravCan

TravCan (Travcan Travel Technologies Inc.) is a Fredericton, NB-based startup currently in its research and development phase, building an AI-powered trip-planning platform focused on connecting Canadians to Canada. Our team is working at the intersection of conversational AI, travel booking infrastructure, and modern cloud architecture — and as we grow, protecting our systems, data, and users is becoming a critical priority. We're looking for a dynamic and detail-oriented Cyber Security Analyst to join us at this early, high-impact stage and help build a strong security foundation as we scale.

The Role In this role, you will be at the forefront of protecting TravCan's critical information systems, networks, and infrastructure from cyber threats. Your expertise will help ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of our digital assets during a formative period for the company. This is an exciting opportunity to work hands-on with modern security tools and methodologies, help shape our security practices from the ground up, and grow your career within a fast-moving, innovation-driven startup environment.

Responsibilities

- Monitor network traffic and security alerts using Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) systems to identify potential threats or vulnerabilities.
- Conduct thorough security analysis and vulnerability research to detect weaknesses within our systems, applications, and network architecture.
- Implement and manage security controls such as firewalls, VPNs, encryption protocols, and intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS) to safeguard data.
- Collaborate with the engineering team on system security configurations across operating systems (Windows, Linux, macOS) and cloud platforms such as AWS and Google Cloud Platform.
- Respond swiftly to cybersecurity incidents by executing incident response procedures, including forensic analysis, containment, eradication, and recovery efforts.

- Help establish and maintain compliance with industry standards such as ISO 27001/27002, PCI DSS, and COBIT frameworks as TravCan matures its security posture.
- Support infrastructure and network engineering tasks involving routing protocols (BGP, OSPF), network protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP), load balancing, high availability solutions, and disaster recovery planning.

Skills
- Strong knowledge of computer networking concepts including LAN/WAN architecture, network protocols (TCP/IP, BGP, EIGRP), routing protocols, and network infrastructure management.
- Experience with cybersecurity tools such as SIEM platforms like Splunk for monitoring and analysis.
- Proficiency in scripting languages including Python, Bash (Unix shell), and PowerShell for automation of security tasks.
- Familiarity with cloud computing environments (AWS, GCP, Azure), virtualization technologies, and infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform, Ansible).
- Experience with system administration across Windows and UNIX/Linux distributions.
- Knowledge of identity & access management solutions (e.g., LDAP) to enforce secure user authentication policies.
- Ability to perform vulnerability assessments and network analysis using standard security tooling; experience with high availability configurations and load balancing.
- Understanding of compliance frameworks including ISO 27001/27002/27005 and PCI DSS requirements for payment card data security.
- Excellent problem-solving skills combined with a proactive, self-directed approach to cybersecurity challenges in a startup DevOps/SDLC workplace.

Why Join Us As an early-stage startup in R&D;, TravCan offers the chance to make an outsized impact shaping our security architecture and practices as the product and company grow, rather than inheriting someone else's system. We're an energetic, innovation-focused team building something meaningful for Canadian travelers, and we're looking for someone who wants to grow alongside us.

Pay: $18.00-$19.00 per hour
