The Data Solutions Specialist role serves to accelerate the College’s digital transformation by acting as a crucial bridge between the College’s stakeholders and its digital data environment. Applying robust systems analysis practices, this position partners with internal teams and external vendors to align operational and academic priorities with a modern data architecture. By delivering scalable data pipelines, enabling intuitive self-service visualization tools, and elevating institution-wide data literacy, this position empowers a secure, data-informed K-12 environment prepared for the future of AI and emerging technologies.
This role may include work outside of typical school hours.
Key Responsibilities And Tasks Systems Analysis
- Build and maintain a strong understanding of the College’s data systems and structures;
- Conduct regular structured discovery sessions with stakeholders to identify and define opportunities to streamline and improve data workflows across the College’s connected systems through automation, API integrations and the use of emerging technologies including AI;
- Translate stakeholder requirements into clear, documented data specifications and project briefs for use by both the internal team and external partners;
- Build and maintain trusted relationships across the entire College, ensuring ongoing alignment between data capabilities and organizational needs;
- Develop and maintain vendor partnerships.
Data Infrastructure and Solutions
- Work with the Manager, Data & Analytics to develop tools and solutions that enable users to independently access, analyze, and interpret data;
- Support the development and execution of the College's data strategy including the migration of data into the Google Cloud Platform (GCP) & BigQuery environment;
- Collaborate with Manager, Data & Analytics and external partners, to design, develop, and maintain scalable end-to-end data pipelines (ETL/ELT) to move data securely into analytical environments;
- Implement appropriate data governance and privacy best practise to ensure compliance in federal and provincial legislation and Ministry of Education and school policies in order to ensure a secure, structured, and well-governed cloud environment;
- Continuously evaluate the College’s current data technology stack against emerging trends to identify where automation or AI integration can enhance organizational efficiency.
Support
- Provide data systems technical support and liaise with vendors when required or if escalation is necessary;
- Promote and reinforce responsible data governance and management best practices;
- Create and maintain required technical documentation and process manuals related to data systems and core processes;
- Support the secure, strategic exploration, development and deployment of AI technologies in compliance with governance and risk protocols;
- Develop and deliver internal professional development to enhance data literary skills within the College in order to support the College’s vision of becoming a data-informed organization;
- Support broader technology initiatives within the Information & Innovation team as required;
- Participate in ongoing professional learning and development.
Other Duties
- Contribute to continuous improvement and operational excellence initiatives;
- Be a mentor for an IB continuum project (Personal Project, PYP Exhibition or Extended Essay).
Job Requirements Experience, Knowledge and Competencies:
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in computer science, data analytics, information technology, or a related field;
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in a business analysis, information technology or data, analytics role;
- Demonstrated experience engaging with non-technical stakeholders to gather, define, and document data or system requirements;
- Experience with data warehousing concepts and best practices for data storage and security;
- Strong working knowledge of Google Cloud Platform (GCP), including BigQuery, Google Cloud Storage, and related services;
- Understanding of API concepts, data integration patterns, and workflow automation principles;
- Proficiency in SQL, including writing and optimizing queries for data extraction, transformation, and validation in environments such as Google BigQuery;
- Working knowledge of Python & Google Coding tools such as Apps Script for data manipulation, automation scripting, and interacting with cloud services and APIs;
- Strong Understanding of data governance, privacy, and data security principles;
- Experience with data visualization and business intelligence tools such as Google Data Studio;
- Knowledge of AI tools and prompt optimization techniques.

This position is an existing vacancy. Compensation is based on qualifications and experience. The range for the position is $66,746-$87,604.
