Deconstructors Demolition Inc. is looking for an experienced Demolition Lead Hand to join our Nanaimo team in a permanent, full-time position.
This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who knows demolition, works confidently alongside the crew, and can keep a project moving safely and efficiently. The ideal candidate is dependable, organized, comfortable directing others, and able to communicate clearly with project management.
Experience or certification in asbestos abatement is a solid asset, but it is not required.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Leading and working alongside demolition crews on residential and commercial projects
- Coordinating daily tasks and providing clear direction to crew members
- Reviewing the scope of work and helping plan an efficient approach
- Completing selective demolition, structural demolition, deconstruction, and site preparation
- Ensuring work is completed safely and in accordance with company procedures and WorkSafeBC requirements
- Conducting toolbox talks, hazard assessments, and daily site documentation
- Monitoring productivity, workmanship, and project progress
- Identifying site issues, additional work, or scope changes and reporting them promptly
- Coordinating tools, equipment, materials, bins, and site needs
- Supporting new and less-experienced workers through hands-on training
- Maintaining a clean, organized, and professional job site
- Communicating respectfully with clients, contractors, inspectors, and company management
What We’re Looking For
- Previous demolition or closely related construction experience
- Experience leading a crew or taking responsibility for daily site activities
- Strong understanding of job-site safety and safe demolition practices
- Ability to read scopes of work, plans, and site instructions
- Confidence assigning tasks and holding crew members accountable
- Good judgment,
problem-solving skills, and attention to detail
- Reliable attendance and the ability to work independently
- Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting, carrying, bending, and working in changing site conditions
- Valid driver’s licence and reliable transportation
- Availability to work primarily in Nanaimo and at other Vancouver Island project locations when required
Strong Assets
- Level 2 or Level 3 asbestos abatement certification (Not required)
- Experience working in regulated abatement environments
- First Aid certification
- Fall Protection certification
- Aerial lift, skid steer, excavator, or other equipment experience
- Experience with concrete, floor removal, hazardous-material projects, or structural demolition
- Experience completing daily reports, time records, safety documentation, and progress photos

Schedule
- Full-time
- Monday to Friday, with occasional overtime or weekend work depending on project requirements
- Work is primarily based in Nanaimo, with travel to other Vancouver Island locations as required
