TITLE: Direct Support Professional
POSITION STATUS: Full-time (Union)
SCHEDULE: 40 hours per week- Schedule will be based on program/client needs

The Bob Rumball Canadian Centre of Excellence for the Deaf (formerly the Bob Rumball Centre for the Deaf) was the first facility of its kind, and for over 30 years has provided the Deaf Community a space without communication barriers. Within this space an educational, independent living, and a social environment for the Deaf has blossomed. From its starting point as a community recreation facility, the Bob Rumball Centre has expanded into offering a range of specialized services to those within the Deaf Community that require support.
These include seniors’, those with developmental, physical, health, or mental health issues, infants and young children, and newcomers to Canada. Position Summary
The Team Leader provides leadership, guidance, and administrative support to front-line staff while ensuring high-quality, person-centred services for Deaf Consumers.
The role includes case management, staff coaching, program coordination, advocacy, and ensuring compliance with organizational and Ministry standards. The Team Leader has authority to delegate assignments and provide direction to staff but does not have disciplinary authority.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide leadership, coaching, mentoring, and direction to front-line staff.
- Support Consumers with personal goals, life skills, counselling, advocacy, and community participation.
- Coordinate ISP/PDP and goal-review meetings and ensure appropriate documentation and follow-up.
- Maintain accurate Consumer files and ensure compliance with program and Ministry requirements.
- Coordinate medical/dental appointments, transportation, activities, and community supports.
- Advocate for Deaf Consumers and maintain strong relationships with families, professionals, and community partners.
- Support staff scheduling, orientation, training, and volunteer/student placements.
- Monitor staff adherence to policies, procedures, medication administration, QAM, and Consumer support plans.
- Review program data, complete audits, and monitor petty cash, Consumer funds, safety checks, fire drills, and required reporting.
- Keep the Program Manager informed of program operations, concerns, and emerging trends.
- Participate in rotating on-call duties and assist with filling vacant shifts as required.
- Promote a safe, respectful, inclusive, and positive working environment.
Qualifications
- Diploma in Human Services or related field OR 5 years of residential experience supporting individuals with developmental disabilities, mental health needs, and/or dual diagnosis.
- Experience working with the Deaf community and fluency in ASL.
- Experience working with clinical professionals regarding mental health and/or behavioural needs.
- Demonstrated leadership, problem-solving, judgement, and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to coach, mentor, and support staff.
- Computer proficiency, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Valid Ontario Full G Driver’s Licence and clean driving record.
- Current or ability to obtain CPR/First Aid, including defibrillation, and maintain required crisis-intervention training.
- French/LSQ is an asset.
