Job Overview

Ina Grafton Gage Home (“IGGH”) is a not-for-profit organization that operates a 4-storey, 128-bed long-term care home with special care services. IGGH is dedicated to providing compassionate, high-quality care to our residents. The Finance Department plays a critical role in supporting this mission by ensuring financial integrity, transparency, and strategic stewardship of resources.

We are seeking a Director of Finance to oversee IGGH’s finance operations. The Director of Finance is responsible for all aspects of financial accounting, reporting, budgeting, internal controls, and payroll. The role will also lead external financial statement audits, advise on corporate accounting policies, and oversee relevant government financial reporting and compliance within a highly regulated sector.

The Director of Finance will work closely with senior management to provide financial insights, analysis, and recommendations to support organizational decision-making. This position will have two to three direct reports.

IGGH is supported by Michael Garron Hospital through a management services agreement. Accordingly, the Director of Finance reports to the Director of Finance at Michael Garron Hospital.

Key ResponsibilitiesFinancial Operations and Reporting

- Provide leadership and implement best practices for the effective management and operational performance of the finance function.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports for relevant stakeholders.
- Direct corporate accounting processes and ensure financial reporting complies with applicable regulatory standards, generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) for not-for-profit organizations, and industry best practices.
- Direct the effective management and control of Resident Trust Accounts.




- Conduct variance analysis to identify and understand discrepancies between budgeted and actual financial performance.
- Monitor expenditures to ensure alignment with approved budgets and work collaboratively with department managers to address variances.
- Oversee treasury and cash management functions.
- Maintain accurate financial records and ensure appropriate accounting practices are followed.
- Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll processes.
- Coordinate external financial audits and ensure financial records and supporting documentation are prepared for review.
- Ensure all applicable statutory requirements of the organization are met and remittances are completed as required.
- Ensure all financial reconciliations are completed accurately and on time.
- Prepare and submit financial and statutory reports required by the Ministry of Long-Term Care, including Annual Reconciliation Reports, occupancy reports, and staffing reports.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives and work with departments to establish, review, and implement policies and procedures that support regulatory compliance.
- Establish and maintain strong internal controls to safeguard organizational assets, prevent fraud, and ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial information.
- Identify opportunities to streamline financial processes, enhance reporting accuracy, and improve the overall efficiency of the finance function.

Financial Planning
- Lead the development and management of the annual operating budget.
- Work collaboratively with department managers throughout the budget development and monitoring process.
- Provide financial support and analysis for funding applications.
- Oversee capital budgeting, asset management, and long-term financial sustainability planning.

Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and Payroll




- Ensure vendor payments are processed accurately and in a timely manner.
- Ensure amounts due from residents are billed and collected promptly.
- Ensure robust payroll processes support the accurate and timely payment of staff and comply with applicable regulatory requirements.
- Address and resolve escalated payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable issues and changes.

General Leadership Accountabilities
- Lead the modernization of finance processes, systems, and reporting to support IGGH’s strategic priorities.
- Lead, mentor, motivate, and manage team members while fostering a collaborative and inclusive team environment that reflects the values of IGGH.
- Contribute to the development and execution of IGGH’s overall strategy, vision, mission, and strategic priorities through cross-departmental collaboration.
- Collaborate with the executive team to develop financial strategies and identify opportunities for cost optimization and revenue growth.

QualificationsEducation
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
- CPA designation required.

Experience
- Minimum of five years of financial management experience, preferably within the healthcare or long-term care sector.
- Demonstrated experience in budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.

Skills
- Solid accounting skills and knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency with financial software and Microsoft Excel.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and stakeholders.

Knowledge
- Understanding of healthcare financing, funding models, and regulations relevant to the long-term care sector in Ontario.
