Director of Information Technology & Enterprise Systems

POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Vice President, Finance & Operations, the Director of Information Technology & Enterprise

Systems provides strategic leadership and oversight for the University's technology function and enterprise systems portfolio.

The Director is responsible for developing and implementing technology strategy; providing leadership for enterprise applications and digital transformation; overseeing IT operations, infrastructure and cybersecurity;

and ensuring that technology investments, services and projects effectively support the University's academic,

administrative and strategic priorities.

The position provides overall leadership for the University's enterprise applications, including Anthology and other institutional systems, ensuring effective integration, lifecycle management, user adoption and continuous improvement. The Director works collaboratively with academic and administrative leaders to identify technology enabled opportunities to improve services, processes and institutional effectiveness.

The Director leads the Information Technology team through the IT Operations Manager and Business Systems

Analyst – Enterprise Applications & Digital Transformation, providing clear accountability while maintaining an appropriate distinction between strategic technology leadership, enterprise systems management and day to day IT operations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Technology Strategy, Leadership & Governance

- Develop and maintain the University's technology strategy and multi year technology roadmap in

alignment with institutional priorities.
- Provide strategic advice to the Vice President, Finance & Operations and senior leadership on

technology opportunities, investments, risks and emerging trends.
- Establish priorities for the Information Technology function and ensure resources are aligned with

institutional needs.
- Provide leadership for technology governance, standards, policies and decision-making frameworks.
- Monitor emerging technologies and assess their potential application within the University, including

artificial intelligence, automation and digital services.
- Promote effective, responsible and innovative use of technology across the institution.
- Develop appropriate measures and reporting to monitor technology service performance, risks,

projects and strategic priorities. 2. Enterprise Applications & Digital Transformation

- Provide strategic leadership and overall accountability for the University's enterprise applications portfolio, including Anthology and other academic and administrative systems.

- Establish appropriate ownership, governance and lifecycle management for enterprise applications.
- Oversee the transition of Anthology and related systems from implementation into sustainable ongoing

operations, optimization and continuous improvement.
- Ensure effective integration between enterprise applications and support the development of a

coherent institutional systems architecture.
- Partner with academic and administrative leaders to identify opportunities for business process

improvement, workflow automation and digital transformation.
- Oversee major application upgrades, enhancements, integrations and implementation initiatives.
- Ensure appropriate change management, stakeholder engagement, training and user adoption

accompany significant technology and system changes.
- Provide leadership and direction to the Business Systems Analyst – Enterprise Applications & Digital

Transformation. 3. IT Operations & Service Delivery

- Provide overall leadership and oversight for IT infrastructure, networks, cloud services, end user

technology and service delivery.
- Provide leadership and direction to the IT Operations Manager, who is responsible for day to day IT

operations and technical service delivery.
- Ensure technology services are reliable, secure, scalable and responsive to the needs of students,

faculty and staff.
- Establish appropriate service standards and performance measures and promote a culture of

responsive, customer focused service.
- Ensure effective technology asset lifecycle planning and management.

4. Cybersecurity, Technology Resilience

- Manage and continuously improve the University's cybersecurity program, in alignment with

institutional priorities and risk expectations.
- Develop and maintain appropriate technology security policies, standards, controls and awareness

programs for review and approval through established University processes.
- Monitor cybersecurity and technology risks and provide regular reporting and recommendations to the

Vice President,



Finance & Operations.
- Coordinate cybersecurity risk assessments, incident preparedness, response activities and remediation

plans.
- Ensure technology practices support applicable legislative, regulatory, contractual, privacy and

institutional requirements.
- Maintain and regularly test appropriate technology disaster recovery capabilities and recovery

procedures.
- Work with institutional leaders to ensure technology recovery plans support the University's broader

business continuity requirements.
- Strengthen IT operational resilience by reducing identified single points of failure, supporting cross

training, and ensuring critical technology processes and system knowledge are appropriately documented. 5. Technology Projects & Portfolio Management

- Manage and coordinate the portfolio of technology projects and initiatives approved by the University.

- Develop project governance, planning, reporting and risk management practices appropriate to the

size and complexity of technology initiatives.
- Work with the appropriate stakeholders to establish explicit objectives, responsibilities, resource

requirements, timelines and expected outcomes for technology projects.
- Assess competing technology initiatives and provide prioritization and investment recommendations

to the Vice President, Finance & Operations.
- Monitor the status, budget, risks and outcomes of major technology initiatives and provide regular

reporting to the Vice President, Finance & Operations and other stakeholders, as appropriate.
- Escalate significant project risks, resource constraints, budget pressures and decisions requiring

executive direction.
- Ensure completed technology projects transition effectively into sustainable operational ownership.

6. Vendor, Contract & Third-Party Management

- Provide leadership for technology vendor and strategic partner relationships.
- Oversee technology contracts, licensing arrangements, renewals and service level agreements.
- Lead or support significant technology contract negotiations and procurement activities.
- Monitor vendor performance, value, risk and compliance with contractual obligations.
- Evaluate third party technology solutions in consideration of institutional requirements,

interoperability, security, cost and long-term sustainability. 7. Financial Management & Technology Investment Planning

- Develop and manage annual operating and capital technology budgets in alignment with institutional

priorities.
- Develop multi year technology investment and lifecycle plans.
- Provide recommendations to the Vice President, Finance & Operations regarding technology

investments and priorities.
- Monitor technology expenditures and ensure responsible stewardship of institutional resources.
- Identify opportunities for cost optimization, consolidation, licensing efficiencies and improved value

from technology investments.
- Ensure technology procurement follows University policies, delegated authorities and procurement

requirements. 8. People Leadership & Team Development

- Provide leadership, direction and oversight for the Information Technology team.
- Develop, coach and support the retention of capable technology professionals.
- Establish clear roles, performance expectations and accountabilities within the team.
- Foster a collaborative, service-oriented culture focused on accountability, innovation and continuous

improvement.
- Develop succession and workforce plans for critical technology functions.
- Promote knowledge transfer, cross training and documentation to reduce dependency on individual

employees.
- Build effective relationships between Information Technology and academic and administrative

departments across the University.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Required

- Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, Business,

or another relevant discipline.

Preferred

- Master's degree in a relevant discipline.
- Relevant professional certification in areas such as IT governance, cybersecurity, project

management, service management or enterprise technology. Experience The successful candidate will normally bring:

- A minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in information technology, enterprise

systems or a related field, including significant leadership or management responsibility.
- Demonstrated experience leading multidisciplinary technology teams and developing staff.
- Experience developing and implementing technology strategy, roadmaps and organizational priorities.
- Significant experience with ERP and enterprise applications in a complex organizational environment.
- Experience overseeing major technology implementations, integrations, upgrades or digital





transformation initiatives.
- Experience with enterprise systems such as ERP, CRM, SIS, finance, HR/payroll or related institutional

applications.
- Experience managing technology vendors, contracts and third-party service providers.
- Experience developing and managing operating and capital technology budgets.
- Experience with cybersecurity, technology risk management, disaster recovery and business continuity.
- Experience establishing technology policies, standards, controls and governance practices.
- Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365, Anthology or comparable enterprise platforms would be

considered an asset. Knowledge & Technical Understanding The successful candidate will demonstrate:

- Strong understanding of enterprise applications, systems integration and application lifecycle

management.
- Sound understanding of IT infrastructure, networks, cloud technologies and modern technology service

delivery.
- Strong understanding of cybersecurity principles, technology risk and privacy requirements.
- Knowledge of technology governance, architecture, project and portfolio management, and vendor

management.
- Understanding of digital transformation, business process improvement, workflow automation, data

and analytics, and emerging technologies.
- Ability to translate complex technical matters into clear business implications, risks and

recommendations for nontechnical audiences.
- Sufficient technical depth to provide credible leadership and oversight while effectively delegating
