Distribution Center Supervisor

Reporting to the Distribution Manager, the Distribution Centre Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the warehouse, ensuring that inventory is managed efficiently, orders are processed accurately, and safety protocols are strictly followed. The role involves managing a team of warehouse workers, organizing workflows, maintaining inventory control, and ensuring the warehouse runs smoothly and effectively.

Supervisor ensures that operations meet the company's production, quality, and safety standards.

Responsibilities

Team Leadership & Personnel Management

- Supervise and lead warehouse staff, providing training, guidance, and support.
- Allocate tasks to warehouse personnel based on daily operational needs.
- Monitor employee performance and provide regular feedback to improve efficiency and morale.
- Ensure that staff comply with company policies and safety regulations.
- Conduct regular performance reviews and assist with employee development and training.

Inventory & Warehouse Operations
- Oversee inventory control, ensuring accurate tracking of stock levels.
- Manage the receiving, storage, and distribution of products and materials.
- Perform regular stock checks and cycle counts to maintain inventory accuracy.
- Work closely with other departments (e.g., supply chain, logistics) to ensure that inventory levels are adequate to meet demand.
- Ensure that warehouse operations are efficient, cost-effective, and compliant with industry standards.
- Plan and implement the layout of the warehouse to maximize space utilization and improve workflow.
- Ensure that all products are stored and handled in compliance with safety and quality standards.

Shipping,



Receiving & Order Fulfillment
- Supervise the loading and unloading of goods, ensuring timely and accurate processing.
- Oversee the order fulfillment process, ensuring that all orders are picked, packed, and shipped on time.

Health, Safety & Compliance
- Ensure the warehouse is a secure working environment by enforcing health and safety standards.
- Conduct safety inspections and implement corrective actions to prevent accidents.
- Maintain awareness of safety regulations and ensure compliance with OSHA and other applicable laws.
- Train warehouse staff on proper handling and safety procedures, including the use of equipment and machinery.

Reporting & Process Improvement
- Maintain accurate records of inventory, shipments, and warehouse activities.
- Prepare reports for upper management on warehouse performance metrics, including productivity, inventory levels, and any operational issues.
- Ensure that all documentation is up-to-date and properly filed, including invoices, shipping logs, and receipts.
- Identify and implement improvements to warehouse processes to increase efficiency and reduce operational costs.
- Evaluate and implement new technologies or systems to streamline warehouse operations (e.g., warehouse management systems, automation).
- Monitor and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) for warehouse productivity and efficiency.

Education

- College Diploma (2-year degree) or technical training preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of Distribution supervisory experience required, specifically within a unionized CPG environment.
- Demonstrated experience working independently and using sound judgment in decision-making.
- Strong analytical skills including the ability to solve problems.
- Skills to develop and implement new procedures and policies to simplify and improve operations.

Technical Skills

- Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience utilizing Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) integrated with ERP/MRP platforms.



Proven track record leading cycle-count programs, root-cause discrepancy investigations, and maintaining >99% inventory accuracy at the bin and pallet level.
- Deep experience managing ocean containers (40'HC) receiving workflows, including drop-and-hook and live-unload coordination. Specific expertise in handling high-density/heavy cargo (weight-to-cube awareness) to ensure safe devanning, dock flow, and elimination of demurrage/detention penalties.
- Solid background executing outbound fulfillment against strict big-box retail compliance manuals (EDI/ASN requirements, GS1-128 barcode labeling, Ti/Hi pallet-build standards, and specific stretch-wrap/banding protocols) to prevent operational chargebacks.
- Demonstrated success directing and scheduling cross-functional shift teams (material handlers, reach-truck/counterbalance operators, staging crews). Experience aligning daily direct labor hours with incoming container volume spikes and outbound shipping cut-offs.
- Practical background optimizing floor space layout, staging raw materials/purchased components for domestic manufacturing lines, and executing fast-turn cross-dock operations for imported finished goods direct to outbound freight.
- In-depth knowledge of occupational health and safety standards (OSHA/provincial safety acts), comprehensive forklift fleet management, pre-shift inspection compliance, and dock-lock/pedestrian-safety enforcement.

Language & Communication Skills

- Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence in English.
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees

Physical Working Environment

- Must be able to multitask while keeping organized in a fast-paced environment.
- Must be detail-oriented and require minimal direction.
- Ability to work effectively on the active warehouse floor around heavy equipment and machinery.
