Job Overview The Driller Assistant supports the Driller in the secure and efficient operation of Raise Boring equipment and associated activities. This role is responsible for assisting with equipment setup, rod handling, maintenance, housekeeping, and ensuring all work is completed in accordance with company and client safety requirements.
Responsibilities
- Assist the Driller with the operation of raise boring equipment.
- Load, unload, handle, and secure drill rods, tooling, and materials.
- Assist with drill setup and alignment according to engineering plans and specifications.
- Assemble and disassemble drilling equipment and components.
- Support routine maintenance, inspections, lubrication, and cleaning of equipment.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Handle and transport drilling samples as required.
- Complete pre-operational inspections and report equipment deficiencies.
- Follow all company, client, and regulatory health and safety requirements.
- Participate in workplace inspections, toolbox talks, and safety meetings.
- Accurately complete required documentation and reports.
- Assist with material handling and equipment moves underground or on surface.
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Basic Underground Common Core 77010
- Working at Heights
- Ability to perform physically demanding work and lift up to 50 lbs (23 kg).
- Ability to work rotational shifts, including nights.
- Previous Raise Bore or drilling experience is preferred
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong commitment to health and safety.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Good communication and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to follow procedures and work instructions.
- Ability to work in confined spaces, underground environments, and varying conditions.
Working Conditions
- Underground and surface mining environments.
- Rotational schedule (e.g., 14/14 - 20-10 - 10-5).
- Exposure to dust, noise, vibration, and varying temperatures.
- Frequent lifting, carrying, climbing, bending, and standing.
Safety Responsibilities
- Work in compliance with all Master Drilling Canada LTD safety policies and procedures.
- Stop work when unsafe conditions exist.
- Use required PPE at all times.
- Report hazards, incidents, and near misses immediately.
- Participate in safety initiatives and continuous improvement effort
Pay: $26.00 per hour
