As a Drilling Assistant, you’ll support the Driller on geotechnical and environmental investigations. This is a hands-on, outdoor role with lots of travel, early mornings, and physical work in all weather. We’ll train the right person who brings hustle, safety focus, and a great attitude.
What You’ll Do
- Set up and break down drill sites; load/unload tooling, augers, rods, core boxes, and supplies.
- Handle spoils, cuttings, and sample management (labelling, logging assistance, chain of custody).
- Mix/batch grout and drilling fluids; backfill/abandon holes to spec.
- Spot vehicles, rig mats, and assist with rig moves (track or truck mounted).
- Maintain clean, protected, and compliant work areas; perform daily housekeeping.
- Complete basic paperwork: timesheets, vehicle/rig inspections, pickup manifests.
- Support environmental tasks: monitoring well installation, development, decon, and waste handling.
- Drive support trucks/trailers to and from sites (if licensed and competent).
- Follow all procedures, PPE requirements, and direction from the Driller/Site Supervisor.
What You Bring
- Must have: Valid G licence with clean abstract; ability to reliably commute to the shop for early departures.
- Physical ability: Lift 50–75 lb repeatedly; bend, carry, and work on your feet 8–12 hrs/day in all weather.
- Mindset: Safety-first, punctual, team-oriented, and willing to learn.
- Nice to have :
- DZ or AZ licence; Air Brakes (Z) endorsement
- WHMIS, Working at Heights, First Aid/CPR
- Construction/field or drilling experience (augers, split-spoons, Shelby tubes, core boxes)
- Mechanical aptitude (basic tool use, greasing, hose fittings, troubleshooting)
Job Type: Full-time Pay: $20.00-$35.00 per hour
