For more information please contact: Madhanika Muthuvairavan - [email protected] The Unit The Centre for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning (The Centre) is a faculty development unit that works in collaboration with faculty and graduate students to provide leadership, expertise, and support in fulfilling the teaching and learning mission of the University of Manitoba. The Centre contributes to the practice and scholarship of teaching through guidance, collaborative problem-solving, and research with respect to teaching and learning effectiveness, curriculum planning, and institutional policies and infrastructure to optimize the learning and teaching experiences of students and faculty.

The Position In alignment with the University of Manitoba’s MomentUM: Leading Change Together Strategic Plan 2024–2029 and The Truth and Reconciliation Framework, this position supports teaching and learning across on-campus, online, blended, and dual-mode learning environments. The successful candidate will work with faculty and instructors across disciplines to design effective learning experiences, strengthen online and blended teaching, and support thoughtful use of educational technologies, including GenAI and Open Educational Practices. As part of the Curriculum and Teaching Development portfolio, the successful candidate will contribute to teaching consultations, curriculum and course design, course development and delivery, workshop facilitation, and related educational development initiatives.

This role is well suited to someone who is curious, reflective, collaborative, and motivated to try current approaches in response to changing teaching and learning needs.

Position Duties: This position includes supporting online course design and teaching, developing teaching competence, providing mentoring and consultation, supporting curriculum and course development and renewal, designing and facilitating teaching workshops, and contributing to professional development and training. This position will report to the Team Lead, Teaching Initiatives and Innovation.

Day-to-day activities Include (but are not limited to):

- Build and maintain respectful working relationships with faculty, instructors, staff, and institutional partners.
- Consult with faculty and instructors to understand their teaching goals, course contexts, student needs, and disciplinary requirements.
- Provide practical, evidence-informed guidance on course design, online teaching, assessment, accessibility, educational technologies, generative AI, and open educational practices.
- Facilitate faculty and graduate student supports, including orientations, institutes, and workshops, in different modalities throughout the year.
- Contribute to and coordinate educational and faculty development projects by organizing meetings, supporting project activities, collaborating with stakeholders, and producing deliverables as required.
- Collaborate with teams within The Centre and across the University to support faculty development, online and blended learning initiatives, curriculum and course design projects, and institutional teaching and learning priorities.
- Respectfully support the integration of Indigenous perspectives, knowledges, pedagogies, Indigenization,



decolonizing approaches, and reconciliation in higher education, in collaboration with colleagues and relevant partners.
- Manage responsibilities independently while maintaining collaborative, responsive, respectful, and service-oriented relationships with faculty, instructors, colleagues, and institutional partners.
- Remain current with established and emerging developments in higher education teaching and learning, including online and blended learning, instructional design, educational technologies, assessment, inclusive and accessible teaching practices, faculty development, Indigenous and Western pedagogical perspectives, Indigenization, decolonization, and reconciliation.

Qualifications: Formal Education and Training

- A master’s degree in education or a related field is required.
- Minimum of 3 years of program or course development experience, with a focus on online teaching and learning in post-secondary education.
- Minimum of 3 years of post-secondary teaching experience.

- Demonstrated openness to feedback, reflection, experimentation, collaboration, and ongoing learning.
- Strong interpersonal, relationship-building, and collaboration skills, with the ability to work respectfully and effectively with faculty, instructors, colleagues, institutional partners, and community partners.
- Ability to assess faculty needs, identify opportunities for support, and take initiative in developing, recommending, and implementing responsive, practical, and creative solutions.
- Demonstrated pedagogical knowledge, with experience supporting curriculum development, course design, and teaching across multiple modalities, including online, on-campus, blended, and dual-mode environments.
- Ability to provide practical, evidence-informed guidance on course design, online teaching, assessment, learning activities, instructional strategies, accessibility, and educational technologies.
- Demonstrated ability to design and facilitate professional development opportunities, including workshops, orientations, institutes, and other supports for faculty, instructors, and graduate students.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Open Educational Practices, including open educational resources, open pedagogy, and approaches that support accessible, flexible, and student-centred learning.
- Demonstrated ability to use, evaluate, and provide guidance on generative AI tools in teaching and learning, including attention to ethical, accessible, and pedagogically appropriate use.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, demonstrated through consultations, facilitation, presentations, project updates, and written resources for faculty and instructors.
- Strong project management, planning, and organizational skills, with the ability to coordinate activities, manage multiple responsibilities, and produce deliverables on time.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment, initiative, and problem-solving in professional, respectful, and relational ways.
- Demonstrated knowledge of university regulations and policies is an asset.
