Position Overview:
We are seeking a talented and motivated Electrical Engineer/Engineer Technologist to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing electrical systems and components for various projects. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual who thrives in a small company setting and is passionate about making a tangible impact. We're based in Calgary, and this position offers a hybrid model with both remote work and on-site visits.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with clients, consultants, regulatory agencies, electrical utility companies, and contractors.
- Develop detailed electrical designs, including but not limited to:
- Power distribution systems
- Generator emergency backup power
- UPS and inverter power backup
- Fire alarm systems
- Lighting and emergency lighting
- Renewable energy systems
- Conduct feasibility studies and technical evaluations to ensure design integrity and compliance with industry standards.
- Apply relevant codes, including the Canadian Electrical Code, National Building Code, ULC, and NFPA Fire Alarm Standards.
- Prepare and review technical documentation, including design specifications, reports, and manuals.
- Provide technical support and guidance throughout the project lifecycle, from conception to completion.
- Conduct construction inspections to ensure design compliance.
- Conduct fire alarm verification in the field.
- Provide engineering support during the construction and commissioning phases of projects.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest industry trends, technologies, and best practices to continuously improve our design processes.
- Maintain knowledge and understanding of safety policies and procedures.
- Travel to client sites, mostly in Alberta and British Columbia.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Electrical Engineering.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in the following fields:
- Electrical design engineering of power distribution and emergency backup systems
- Electrical design engineering for Buildings, including Fire Alarm, lighting, security and data infrastructures.
- Strong understanding of electrical systems, components, and design principles.
- In-depth knowledge of the following codes and standards:
- Canadian Electrical Code
- National Building Code – Alberta Edition
- ULC and NFPA Fire Alarm Standards
- Telecommunication standards
- Eligibility to obtain APEGA membership an asset.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD an asset.
- Proficiency in ETAP or SKM Software an asset.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team in a fast-paced, small company workplace.
