PROFILE
We are currently hiring an Electronic File Management Clerk to join our Medical Defence Practice Group. The successful candidate will join our Medical Defence Law Clerk Team providing support to legal professionals and law clerks in this specialized area of health law. The successful candidate brings excellent attention to detail, a proven ability to work in a team environment, and a genuine interest in medical defence.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist with processing and coding of file materials including medical records, financial statements, and other documentation;
- Liaise with the law clerks, legal professionals, and opposing counsel as required in relation to civil litigation materials and administrative law matters referred to hearings;
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure accurate, secure, and timely document processing;
- Organize, track and maintain documentation relevant to the files and proactively undertake follow-up as required;
- Under the direction of the law clerks, assist the legal professionals in preparing expert packages including electronic organization of documentation;
- Track and organize large volumes of data while supporting process improvement in file management;
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- A minimum of a Legal Administrative Assistant Diploma with preference being given for Paralegal/ Law Clerk Certification from a recognized post-secondary institution;
- Certified in Health Information Management (CHIM) Designation is an asset;
- Experience with Relativity is an asset;
- Litigation experience with a solid understanding of the steps in the Alberta civil litigation process is an asset;
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills, including the ability to take direction and receive mentoring from team members;
- Ability to handle a heavy and varied workload;
- Ability to adapt to the needs of the client and the needs of the legal professionals;
- Solid knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite;
- Excellent prioritization and organization skills;
- Excellent attention to detail;
- Advanced problem solving skills and flexibility, including the ability to set priorities while dealing with conflicting and emerging priorities;
- Demonstrated commitment to a high level of professionalism, confidentiality, and discretion is required;
- Understanding of medical terminology is an asset.
