1. Position Purpose
- The purpose of this role is to support the development, implementation and continuous improvement of environmental, health, safety, and training programs. This position helps ensure compliance with applicable legislation, corporate standards, customer requirements, and ISO management systems while promoting a proactive safety culture through employee engagement, risk reduction, training, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Responsibilities
1. General
- Coordinate and track corrective and preventative actions
- Participate in emergency response planning and drills
- Maintain EHS documentation, procedures and records
- Support compliance with the Ontario Occupational health and Safety Act
- Initiate corrective actions for non-conformances
- Support Continuous Improvement Programs
- Support compliance with applicable government agencies (e.g. Ministry of Labour)
- Advocate and be a role model for safe behavior and workplace safety
Environmental, Health and Safety
- Conduct facility inspections, ensure adherence to federal, provincial and local regulations and maintain readiness for ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 audits
- Participate in incident investigations, lead root cause analysis and implement corrective actions
- Develop and deliver safety training for current hires, contractors, and existing employees (e.g. WHMIS, emergency response, orientations)
- Conduct Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) and ergonomic assessments to mitigate workplace hazards
- Maintain accurate records of safety metrics and incident reports
- Actively participate in the Safety Committee and contribute to initiatives that strengthen the safety culture
- Support sustainability and waste reduction initiatives
- Facilitate and participate in safety inspections of the site, equipment (prestart health and safety reviews) and management of change activities
- Play an active role in the administration of the See It, Sort It, Report System (Hazard Reporting)
- Assist with scheduling/coordination of industrial hygiene and environmental testing
- Collaborate with supervisors, employees and health and safety committee members to identify and correct potential health and safety hazards
- Maintain the site’s environmental aspects and impacts
- Monitor corrective actions resulting from audit findings and ensure timely closure.
Other
- Ensure all quality, food, safety, environmental as well as all other Company policies and procedures are followed
- Ensure that all quality, food, food safety, and environmental issues are reported to the appropriate manager or supervisor
- Ensure that all work is carried out safely and without injury
Skills
- Ability to independently plan, organize and prioritize work
- Presentation and training skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work effectively within a team environment
- Proficient use of computer software such as Microsoft Office
- Attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to manage multiple priorities
Education
- College diploma preferred, High School Diploma required
- Train the Trainer Certification preferred
Experience
- Working knowledge of safety and environmental laws/regulations (OHS, Machine Guarding, Hazard Communication, etc.)
- 2-5 years’ experience in an EHS role
- SQF experience an asset
- ISO 14001 and 45001 experience an asset
