About the Job Join Terrace Group as a Heavy Equipment Operator & Job Lead. As an agile company, our operators do more than just push dirt—you are in charge of site execution, directing ground support, managing production, and taking pride in delivering a finished project from start to finish.
You’ll operate heavy machinery across commercial and residential sites—performing excavation, fine grading, driveway/pad prep, utility trenching, and parking lot maintenance under dispatch. Plus, top performers transition into winter snow operations (running Loaders, CTL's, and Dump Trucks ) for continuous, year-round employment. If you like tight crews, clean gear, and visible results every shift, you’ll fit right in.
Role (Execution-First)
Own the job site. Master execution standards, run heavy machinery with precision, direct on-site crew members, and keep equipment and projects mission-ready—every grade accurate, every trench safe, every log flawless.
What You’ll Do
- Site Leadership & Ownership: Take charge of assigned job sites, direct ground support staff, communicate with clients/inspectors on-site, and ensure project specs are met efficiently.
- Precision Machinery Operation: Daily operation of CTL Skid Steers, Excavators (mini to heavy), Front-End Loaders, and Street Sweepers across civil and maintenance projects.
- Site Execution & Grading: Perform precision excavation, sub-grade prep, driveway/pad installations, gravel grading, utility trenching, demolition, and site drainage work using laser levels and grade stakes.
- Year-Round Operations: Transition seamlessly into winter commercial snow management (loader operations, salting, sanding, and snow hauling) between summer excavation seasons.
- Hauling & Logistics:
Drive Class 5 / Class 3 vehicles with heavy trailers to safely haul machines, materials, tools, and debris across Winnipeg.
- Equipment Care & Maintenance: Perform thorough daily pre-trip and post-trip machine inspections; handle grease, fluid top-offs, and report defects immediately to maintain high uptime.
- Digital Documentation: Keep tight timesheets, trip logs, material tracking, and job photo documentation via our mobile app.
What Success Looks Like
- Complete Site Ownership: Running projects efficiently on-grade, on-time, and within scope with minimal supervision.
- Precision Output: Executing site plans to exact grade and depth specs safely, cleanly, and on schedule.
- Equipment Stewardship: Zero preventable equipment damage; flawless daily maintenance, greasing, and inspection habits.
- Safety & Site Control: Maintaining strict trench safety, utility clearances (Click Before You Dig), and keeping ground crew safe around machines.
- Accurate Records: Flawless inspection records, timesheets, material tracking, and timestamped photo logs.
You Bring
- Experience: 2+ years of proven hands-on operating experience (Excavators and CTL Skid Steers required; Loaders/Sweepers a bonus).
- Job Site Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead a small crew, read site plans, set/check grade with lasers/transit levels, and manage on-site execution independently.
- Licensing: Valid Class 3 Driver’s License with a clean abstract / with Air Endorsement
- Physical Capability: Comfortable stepping out of the cab to assist ground crew with physical labor (lifting up to 50 lbs, rigging loads, manual grading) when required.
- Schedule Flexibility: Comfortable with early mornings, long shifts, overtime, and winter on-call availability during storm events.
Worksite Reality Our season runs high-intensity by design. Expect 12-hour shifts during peak project windows, outdoor work in all Manitoba weather conditions (summer heat to winter cold/snow), and a hands-on role where you alternate between precision cab work and leading the site on foot.
