The following scheduled time slots apply to the available positions:

(1) Weekday Day Shift: Monday to Friday, 3:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

(1) Weekday Evening Shift: Monday to Friday, 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

(1) Weekend Day Shift: Thursday to Sunday, 3:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

(1) Weekend Evening Shift: Thursday to Sunday, 12:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

What you’ll do

- Operate a tandem snow plow complete with sand/salter and wing
- Operate a wheeled loader to load sand and salt on to winter maintenance vehicles
- Operate pickup truck for winter road patrol to monitor weather and road conditions and dispatch required maintenance equipment
- Remove debris from roads (patroller)
- Respond to emergency calls received from police, utilities and the public; provide support for road closures, inspections and clean up after collisions
- Erection and removal of snow fences
- Free drainage ditches and culverts from clogged snow and ice buildup
- Snow removal
- Operate County equipment as assigned in connection with all road construction and maintenance activities
- Operate backhoe, loader, tractor, excavator, chainsaw, fork lift, etc.
- Perform all routine maintenance including daily safety and maintenance checks
- Assist Mechanic in routine repairs and upkeep on County equipment




- In accordance with Ontario Regulation 239, Minimum Maintenance Standards; Respond to emergency calls received from police, utilities and the public; provide support for road closures, inspections and clean up after collisions
- Winter

- Monitor and record County road conditions and review forecast information
- Dispatch required snowplow equipment
- Assign routes and operations to be completed to Operator/ Labourers
- Assign products and treatments to the road (salt, sand or liquids including material rates)
- Close roads as requested by OPP due to weather conditions or accidents
- Recommend declaring a Significant Weather Event as specified in the regulation
- In direct communications with OPP and MTO’s patrollers
- Update road conditions and closures on the County website

- Routine Patrol

- Monitor road conditions, hazards and create work orders for maintenance activities
- Inspect traffic lights for lamps out and general operation
- Record and create work orders of any sign damage or missing signs
- Remove debris from the entire road platform including garbage, rocks, road kill, tire parts, etc.
- Investigate roadside issues as required
- Attend traffic accident scenes
- Hard-top maintenance; Perform traffic control during maintenance activities
- Roadside Maintenance; Assess road safety and maintenance needs,



Perform traffic control during maintenance activities
- Sign maintenance; Install regulatory and warning road signs
- Bridge maintenance; As part of a crew perform culvert cleaning, repair, replacement and installation
- Other duties as assigned

What you’ll bring

- Grade 12 diploma or equivalent
- Valid DZ driver’s license required
- First Aid training
- Minimum 2 years of experience operating tandem snow plow-sander combination units and loaders and other heavy construction equipment
- Road construction experience
- Knowledge of road construction and maintenance best practices with ability to adapt practices to complex situations
- Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety legislation and WHMIS regulations
- Must be capable of completing a variety of work forms and maintain accurate work time records
- Must be compliant with the Commercial Vehicle Operator Registration
