Job Summary:

Answering to the Branch Manager, TORMAX Ottawa (TOT), the Estimator - Ottawa Branch, will liaise with Customer Service, Sales Engineers, and the national Distribution team, while providing product estimates and technical specification guidance to our existing customer base. We are looking for a hands-on, quality oriented, results driven, experienced construction industry estimator.

Major Responsibilities and Key Accountabilities:

- Review scope of work, specifications and addendums for prospective projects to provide lump sum tender prices.
- Produce product take-offs by examining drawings from Architects, Engineers and General Contractors to determine the proper product and quantities that would be required to correctly fulfill both the building code specifications and the customers budget requirements.
- Review and make changes to estimates as per post-tender addendums.
- Ensure all specification questions or product options are sent to the Sales Engineers in a time sensitive manner.




- Ensure that completed and accurate estimates are forwarded to the Sales Engineers within the tender deadline timeframes.
- Collaborate with all branch and department peer groups, to ensure that regional best practises, high quality quotation documents and competitive pricing is provided consistently and in a qualified manner.

Other Tasks:

- Be responsive to multiple channels/team members, as priorities change and be able to work on several projects simultaneously.
- Remain current with internal product upgrades and changes as well as stay in tune with competitor product and building code regulation changes.
- Organize and update internal product pricing as well as vendor and component pricing information.

Education and Experience:

- Three (3) + years experience working as an estimator in commercial glazing, entrance system automation and specialty hardware will be considered.
- Post-secondary education in quantity surveying, estimation or engineering technology would be considered an asset.

- A good sense of urgency and ability to handle multiple schedule commitments when necessary.
- Experience working with cross functional teams with diverse international backgrounds.
- Knowledge in entrance automation and other barrier free product lines
- Strong computer skills in MS Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) with a user’s knowledge of ERP systems such as Navision
- Ability to visualize form and space from conceptual 2D drawings.
- The ability to create basic product shop drawings within CAD would be considered a strong advantage.

- Reliable, confidential, and conscientious
- Valid BC drivers licence required with the ability to prove a clean driving record.
- Solid problem-solving and analytical skills is an asset.
- Positive attitude, with an ability to foster an atmosphere of product confidence and transparency in specification guidance.
