OPPORTUNITY OVERVIEW The Vancouver Club is looking for a passionate Event Sommelier & Bar Supervisor to bring energy, expertise, and exceptional hospitality to our events. In this dynamic role, you will combine your knowledge of wine, cocktails, and beverage service with your leadership skills to create memorable experiences for our Members and guests.
You will oversee bar operations, lead and inspire bartenders and servers, maintain impeccable bar presentation, batch and execute signature cocktails, and ensure every event runs seamlessly from setup to last call.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Master the catering wine list, spirits and bar package offerings.
- Take a lead role in execution of Wine forward Private and Membership Events, corresponding with the Kitchen, concierge, event staff, Catering & the event host to ensure timings and standards of the event are met.
- Supervise and train employees on all bar product knowledge, operations, procedures, drink recipes, preparation methods and routine bar maintenance.
- Monitor the atmosphere of the bar and take steps to maintain an enjoyable setting for employees and guests
- Assist in menu tastings as well as provide guidance to members and guests on Club activities and promote services available.
- Comply with all liquor laws and safety regulations.
- Prepare and label batched cocktails, garnishes, and specialty bar materials according to business demands.
- Set up and maintain bars for events, ensuring cleanliness, organization, and proper inventory.
- Accurately mix and serve beverages per club recipes and standards.
- Maintain complete knowledge of all menu items including alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages available at the assigned bar and their descriptions and characteristics.
- Follow all breakage and spillage procedures
- Perform opening and closing duties, recycling, and reporting as needed.
- Collaborate with the wine and beverage team on inventory organization.
- Assist with monthly glassware inventory.
- Manage bar tools, equipment, and inventory
- Address guest needs, resolve complaints, and provide guidance on club services.
- Reviews guest satisfaction results with management
- Comply with BC liquor laws and club policies.
- Perform all other duties as required.
- Maintain Glassware inventory within Banquet Department, conduct Glassware inventory each month
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS
- 1-2 years of supervisory experience.
- Valid Serving it Right certification required.
- FOODSAFE Level 1 certification required.
- WSET Level 2 or higher (preferred)
- Bartending certification preferred.
- Knowledge of classic cocktails, spirits, beer, wine, and bar culture.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work flexible schedules.
