Job Overview The Executive Director is the senior operational leader of SQUAD Inc. and is responsible for the day-to-day management and organizational oversight of the organization under the direction of the Board of Directors.

The Executive Director serves as the primary link between governance and operations. They are responsible for translating Board-approved direction into practical organizational action, supporting staff and volunteers, overseeing programs and finances, strengthening community and funder relationships, managing risk, and ensuring that organizational systems remain effective and accountable.

The successful candidate will bring strong leadership, sound judgment, financial and organizational literacy, and the ability to lead a growing community-based nonprofit with transparency, respect, and consistency.

Duties

- Provide day-to-day leadership and operational direction.
- Implement Board-approved policies, priorities, and strategic plans.
- Supervise and support staff and volunteers.
- Oversee SQUAD programs, services, and organizational activities.
- Monitor budgets, spending, financial controls, and organizational resources.
- Lead or support grant applications, funding renewals, and funder reporting.
- Maintain positive relationships with funders, community partners, service providers, and stakeholders.
- Prepare reports and updates for the Board of Directors.
- Ensure required organizational, program, financial, and administrative reporting is completed on time.
- Support compliance with SQUAD policies, funding agreements, and applicable legal requirements.
- Identify and address organizational risks, complaints, workplace concerns, and operational issues.
- Support long-term organizational sustainability and continuous improvement.

Qualifications & Education Post-secondary education in one or more of the following areas is preferred:

- Nonprofit management
- Business administration
- Public administration
- Social services
- Community development
- Human resources
- Finance
- A related field





We recognize that strong nonprofit leaders develop their skills in many ways. Applicants may bring a combination of formal education, professional experience, community leadership, volunteer experience, and lived experience. Requirements The successful candidate will have:

- Leadership, management, supervisory, nonprofit, social service, or community-development experience.
- Experience supervising or supporting staff, volunteers, or community teams.
- Experience with nonprofit administration, program oversight, or Board relations.
- Experience with budgeting, grants, funding agreements, or financial reporting.
- Strong organizational, communication, and relationship-building skills.
- Good judgment, problem-solving, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Understanding of confidentiality, professional boundaries, equity, accessibility, and inclusive community practice.
- Comfort using Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, spreadsheets, databases, and virtual meeting platforms.
- Post-secondary education in nonprofit management, business, public administration, social services, community development, human resources, finance, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Assets Experience in any of the following would be considered an asset:

- 2SLGBTQIA+, Indigenous, youth, mental health, harm reduction, housing, or other community-serving organizations
- Grassroots or growing nonprofit organizations
- Grant writing, fundraising, or sponsorship development
- Policy development, strategic planning, governance, or risk management
- Program evaluation and funder reporting

Pay: $30.00-$40.00 per hour
