Position Overview: Reporting to the Family Connection Centre (FCC) Supervisor, the Family Support Worker (FSW) provides relationship-based, individualized support to parents, caregivers, and families from pregnancy and infancy through adolescence and young adulthood. Using evidence-informed, strength-based, and trauma-informed approaches, the FSW supports healthy child development, caregiver confidence, family wellbeing, and family resilience through practices such as home visitation, one-to-one support, group programming, referrals, and community engagement.

The FSW assists families in navigating health, education, social, and community systems, connects them with appropriate resources and services, and works collaboratively with internal teams and community partners to provide coordinated support. This role contributes to prevention and early intervention efforts while maintaining professional, ethical, and safety standards.

The Family Connection Centre, part of the Alberta Family Resource Network, serves communities across the Bow Valley. Flexibility in work hours, including evenings and weekends, and the ability to travel throughout the Bow Valley are required to meet the diverse needs of families.

The Family Support Worker will be assigned a specialized portfolio, and responsibilities may include home visitation, school-age family support, child/youth/young adult programs, parenting programs, outreach services, or other Family Resource Network initiatives based on organizational needs.

Core Accountabilities

Provide Relationship-Based Family Support Deliver individualized, strength-based support to families from pregnancy and infancy through adolescence and young adulthood using trauma-informed approaches

Conduct regular one-to-one sessions to build trust and assess family needs and understand their strengths, goals, and concerns

Support healthy child development and caregiver confidence through evidence-informed practices

Adapt support strategies based on family circumstances, cultural backgrounds, and evolving needs Facilitate Groups and Community Engagement Design and facilitate programs, presentations, and group activities that build family resilience and peer connections for children/youth and caregivers

Engage families in community events and outreach initiatives to increase awareness of available resources

Create inclusive, welcoming environments that respect diverse family structures and experiences Navigate Systems and Connect Families to Resources Help families access health, education, social, and community services appropriate to their circumstances

Provide referrals and coordinate support with internal teams and community partners

Advocate for families and address barriers to accessing needed services and resources

Maintain updated knowledge of community resources across the Bow Valley Maintain Professional Documentation and Communication Create and maintain accurate,



timely case notes and confidential records following professional and legal standards

Communicate respectfully and effectively with families, colleagues, supervisors, and community partners

Use Microsoft Office to independently create and manage documents, spreadsheets, and data

Maintain clear boundaries with clients around professional relationship and levels of service

Complete reports to support grant requirements based on data collected throughout the quarter Support Specialized Initiatives Implement assigned specialized portfolios such as home visitation, school-age support, or parenting programs as directed by organizational needs

Seek to understand and address service gaps and community trends through programming

Contribute to prevention and early intervention efforts within the Alberta Family Resource Network

Is a member of the Town’s Emergency Social Services team Health and Safety Fulfill worker responsibilities under the Town of Canmore Health & Safety Directive

Participate in the Town's health and safety program, following all safety legislation, policies, and procedures

Perform work safely and protect the health and safety of self and others

Refrain from causing or participating in harassment or violence

Report incidents, injuries, and unsafe or harmful worksites, acts, or conditions

Is willing to read, understand and follow the Alberta College of Social Workers’ Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice Has a familiarity with the requirements of mandated reporting as per the Alberta Child, Youth, and Family Enhancement Act Key Competencies Actively contributes to team success by reliably participating, sharing expertise, and offering thoughtful insights and perspectives. Communicates information verbally in a clear, concise, and effective manner, ensuring understanding across a range of audiences and contexts Education & Qualifications:

Required Bachelor’s degree in social work or related human service field and is in good standing and eligible for full registration with the Alberta College of Social Workers or with a regulatory college/association where applicable (Child and Youth Care, Counselling, Education) Minimum three years of professional experience working directly with families, children, or vulnerable populations in a support, education, or service delivery capacity

Experience working with children and families, and factors that influence healthy development

Understanding of trauma-informed and strength-based approaches to family support

Demonstrated ability to build trusting relationships with diverse families and interest holders across cultural backgrounds and family structures

Experience supporting vulnerable individuals, families, and communities experiencing social barriers or marginalization

Strong written and verbal communication skills, with ability to document clearly and professionally

Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications to independently create documents, spreadsheets, and manage data

Current CPR/First Aid certification at the level appropriate for work with children in Alberta

Criminal Record Check (vulnerable sector) and child abuse registry clearance as required by Alberta legislation

Valid Class 5 Alberta driver's license

Ability and willingness to travel throughout the Bow Valley

Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to meet family needs Preferred/Asset Completion of formal training in trauma-informed practice, attachment theory, or evidence-informed parenting approaches

Experience designing and facilitating group programs, workshops, or community engagement initiatives

Knowledge of Alberta's child welfare, education, and health systems and available community resources

Experience working within a family resource network or early intervention framework

Lived experience or personal understanding of family challenges, barriers, or systemic navigation

Familiarity with case management software or electronic documentation systems

Experience working in a municipal or non-profit organization Salary &

Benefits: Hourly Rate: $44.57 - $48.29 per hour.

Pay rate will be calculated based on successful candidate’s related work experience and education
