Position: Family Support Worker

Term: Permanent Full-Time

Department: Child and Family Services

Division: Community and Social Services

Salary: Competitive salary range

Hours: 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 8:30a.m. to 4:30p.m.,

must be flexible to align work schedule with program requirements which will include some evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays

Job Summary The Family Support Worker provides culturally grounded, community-based support services to members of the Oneida Nation of the Thames living in Oneida, London, and surrounding areas. This role supports children, youth, and families who are seeking assistance, are at risk of involvement with the Children’s Aid Society (CAS), or are currently involved with CAS, with a robust focus on prevention, early intervention, and family preservation.

Working from a strengths-based and holistic approach, the Family Support Worker helps families identify needs, build life skills, and access appropriate services that promote safety, stability, and long-term well-being. The position plays a key role in supporting families to remain safely together within their family of origin and community, regardless of geographic location.

The Family Support Worker collaborates closely with Band Representatives, Prevention and Youth Services, CAS, community partners, and families to address child protection concerns, strengthen parenting capacity, and reduce the need for further intervention. Through advocacy, coordination, education,



and culturally responsive practice, the Family Support Worker supports family stability, child safety, and positive outcomes for Oneida children, youth, and families.

Education

- Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) is preferred.
- Candidates with a Diploma or Degree in Social Service Worker, Human Services, Community Services, Sociology, Psychology, or a related field may also be considered.

Experience

- A minimum of two (2) years of experience in child welfare, social services, or a related field.
- Experience supporting First Nations children, youth, and families is required.
- Experience in case management is preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Oneida culture and history is required.
- Strong knowledge of Bill C-92: An Act Respecting First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Children, Youth, and Families.
- A Valid Class “G” Ontario Driver’s License and use of company vehicle is required.
