Summary

The Fluvial Geomorphologist or Fluvial Specialist provides technical expertise in the planning, assessment, design, and implementation of river, stream, and watershed restoration projects associated with multi-sector and environmental development initiatives. This role leads and supports geomorphic assessments, natural channel design, erosion mitigation, stream rehabilitation, floodplain enhancement, and restoration planning projects. Working as a subject matter expert, the Fluvial Geomorphologist or Specialist collaborates with geoscientists, engineers, ecologists, planners, developers, municipalities, conservation authorities, and regulatory agencies to develop practical, resilient, and environmentally sustainable solutions.

The position contributes advanced technical analysis, restoration design, regulatory support, and project management throughout all phases of project delivery, from planning and permitting through detailed design, construction support, and post-construction monitoring.

Position Details

- Pay: $70,000.00 to $120,000.00 annually
- Hours of Work: 40 hours per week

- Travel for Work: Occasional travel to local sites for fieldwork

Job Duties

- Conduct fluvial geomorphic assessments, stream evaluations, erosion hazard assessments, and watershed studies
- Lead the development of restoration strategies and natural channel design solutions for residential, infrastructure, and environmental projects
- Prepare and contribute to restoration designs, including:
- Stream restoration
- Natural channel design
- Channel realignment
- Bank stabilization
- Floodplain enhancement
- Habitat restoration
- Bioengineering applications
- Erosion and sediment control measures

- Analyze channel stability, sediment transport processes, erosion risks, and watershed dynamics to support project recommendations
- Integrate geomorphology, ecology, stormwater management, and land development considerations into restoration and infrastructure solutions
- Prepare, review, and contribute to technical reports, restoration plans, construction drawings, grading plans, specifications, and environmental permit applications
- Support hydraulic and hydrologic assessments and incorporate findings into restoration and channel design projects
- Manage projects and technical work assignments from proposal development through planning, design, permitting, construction support, and post-construction monitoring.
- Develop project scopes, schedules, work plans, and budget estimates
- Monitor project progress, budgets, deliverables, and schedules to ensure successful project completion
- Coordinate with internal technical teams and external consultants to deliver integrated project solutions
- Participate in client meetings,



stakeholder consultations, technical workshops, and regulatory agency discussions
- Serve as a technical resource and trusted advisor to clients and project teams.
- Support proposal preparation, technical presentations, and business development activities
- Maintain strong working relationships with clients, municipalities, conservation authorities, and regulatory agencies
- Stay current with industry trends, technical advancements, regulatory changes, and best practices in fluvial geomorphology and restoration design
- Provide technical mentorship and guidance to junior staff and project team members as required
- Perform field investigations, site inspections, monitoring programs, and construction review activities as required
- Perform other duties as required

Requirements

- Degree in Geomorphology, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, Geography, or a related field.
- Professional designation, such as P.Geo., or eligibility to obtain designation considered an asset
- Project Management certification considered an asset
- 5-10+ years of experience in fluvial geomorphology, restoration design, water resources, or environmental consulting (candidates with less than 5 years will not be considered)
- Experience supporting residential land development, infrastructure, municipal, or environmental restoration projects
- Demonstrated experience managing multidisciplinary projects and technical assignments
- Extensive experience in natural channel design, erosion assessment, stream restoration, and regulatory approvals
- Advanced knowledge of fluvial geomorphology, watershed processes, sediment transport, erosion hazards, channel stability, and restoration design principles
- Strong understanding of environmental permitting and approval processes related to development and restoration projects
- Experience preparing technical reports, restoration plans, permit applications, and design documentation
- Proficiency with GIS, CAD, hydraulic and hydrologic modelling tools, and restoration design software
- Strong project management skills, including scope development, scheduling, budgeting, and coordination
- Excellent technical writing, communication, and presentation skills
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational abilities
- Strong stakeholder engagement and client relationship management skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams)
- Clear Criminal Record Check
- Valid Class G Driver's License
