Velocity Truck Centres Canada (VTC) is seeking an experienced Foreman BCW to join our Nanaimo team. This leadership role is ideal for a certified Truck & Transport Mechanic who excels in shop operations, technician development, fleet maintenance, diagnostics, quality control, and customer service. As the Foreman, you will play a critical role in leading technicians, maximizing shop productivity, ensuring repair quality, supporting safety initiatives, and delivering exceptional service to our customers. You will act as the bridge between Service Management, technicians, and customers while maintaining Velocity's commitment to operational excellence.

Position Summary
The Foreman BCW is responsible for supervising and supporting technicians in the daily repair and maintenance of commercial trucks, highway tractors, and fleet vehicles. This position drives productivity, quality assurance, technician development, operational efficiency, and customer satisfaction while ensuring compliance with company policies and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Development
- Directly supervise technicians and apprentices in their day-to-day duties.
- Monitor productivity, efficiency, workmanship, and overall performance.
- Provide coaching, mentorship, and technical guidance.
- Identify training requirements and support employee development.
- Conduct team huddles and communicate operational priorities.
- Assist Service Management with technician performance evaluations.
- Foster a respectful, inclusive, and high-performance workplace culture.
Shop Operations & Workflow Management
- Schedule and assign work based on technician skillsets, certifications, experience, and workload.
- Balance efficiency, repair quality, customer expectations, and profitability.
- Communicate allotted flat-rate hours and any repair order changes.
- Monitor repair status and ensure timely completion of work.
- Assign, track, and follow up on all repairs in progress.
- Support the repair order process and ensure technicians understand customer concerns and repair requirements.
Technical Support & Diagnostics
- Assist with advanced mechanical and electrical diagnostics.
- Support technicians in troubleshooting complex repair issues.
- Perform or oversee road tests as required.
- Provide technical expertise on heavy-duty truck systems.
- Coordinate with OEM representatives and vendors for technical assistance when necessary.
- Make decisions regarding warranty repairs, failure analysis, and parts re-use.
Quality Assurance & Compliance
- Perform quality assurance inspections and repair audits.
- Monitor repair progress and workmanship standards.
- Train technicians on quality control processes and best practices.
- Review technician documentation for completeness and accuracy.
- Ensure repair operations, warranty processes, core returns, and parts tagging requirements are completed properly.
- Maintain compliance with company policies, procedures, safety regulations, and applicable collective agreements.
Customer Service & Communication
- Engage with customers to obtain repair authorizations.
- Communicate estimate changes and repair timelines.
- Assist in resolving customer concerns and service-related issues.
- Complete repair order reviews with customers when required.
- Build strong customer relationships through professionalism and responsiveness.
Administration & Technology
- Utilize Uptime Pro (UTP) to:
- Set accurate ETCs (Estimated Time of Completion)
- Document customer communications
- Track repair authorizations
- Save estimates and revisions
- Maintain accurate service records
- Prepare job estimates as required.
- Submit reports and operational updates to the Service Manager.
Required Qualifications
Education & Certification
- Commercial Transport (Truck & Transport Mechanic) Journeyman Certificate required.
- Red Seal Certification considered a strong asset.
- Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence.
- Valid Class 3 or Class 1 Driver's Licence required.
Experience
- Minimum 5 years' experience as a Journeyman Heavy Equipment Technician or Truck & Transport Mechanic.
- Minimum 1 year of supervisory experience leading teams of five or more employees.
- Experience within a dealership, fleet maintenance, transportation, or heavy equipment environment preferred.
Technical Knowledge
- Strong diagnostic, repair, and maintenance expertise.
- Knowledge of:
- Heavy-duty trucks
- Highway tractors
- Diesel engines
- Electrical systems
- Experience using electronic diagnostic software and OEM service platforms.
