Job Title: Front of House and Hospitality Manager
Reports To: Director of Marketing, Sales, and Patron Engagement
Location: On-Site
Position Type: Full-Time, Exempt, Flexible Schedule that includes occasional nights and weekends
Salary: $40,000 annually
About This Position
People's Light's Front of House and Hospitality Manager holds a key internal and patron-facing role at an exciting moment of evolution for the organization. Reporting to the Associate Director of Audience Services, and working closely with artistic and production staff, stage management, and outside vendors, this position is responsible for serving as the house "concierge”, delivering a first-class patron experience through direct patron engagement, proactive problem-solving, stage management coordination, and concessions oversight.
The Front of House and Hospitality Manager is an integral member of the marketing department, which includes Ticketing Services, Sales, Box Office, Audience Services, Marketing, and Design. This role works collaboratively with all People's Light internal clients, including Artistic, Development, Education, Finance, Farmhouse, and Surround Programming, with a focus on earned revenue. This position brings a hospitality mindset and actively cultivates an setting of support, collegiality, and professionalism.
Key Responsibilities
House Management and Patron Engagement
- Serve as House Manager for approximately half of all performances in a production season, including greeting patrons, dressing the house, communicating with stage management, and monitoring the activities of ushers, will call, and other house staff
- Create and distribute the House Management report at the conclusion of each performance
- Work with the Associate Director of Audience Services to monitor House Manager and Stage Management reports, tracking needs and coordinating any required corrective actions
- Bring a hospitality-first mindset to every patron interaction, consistently seeking new opportunities to elevate the audience experiences
Staff and Volunteer Management
- Manage all part-time Front of House staff and volunteer hiring, training, onboarding, and scheduling
- Foster a collaborative, professional, and inclusive team culture across front of house operations
Concessions and Vendor Management
- Oversee concessions budgeting, inventory management, and ordering from Farmhouse operations and outside vendors for food and beverages, including occasional product pickup from nearby suppliers
- Manage accounts with outside food, beverage, and alcohol vendors and suppliers including PLCB and the Farmhouse
- Maintain current Staff RAMP Certifications, AED equipment documentation, and Food Safety Certificates
Financial Management
- Manage and reconcile cash, budgets, and banks across front of house operations
- Manage the Square POS system including inventory management and reporting
Community Programming and Events
- Work closely with the Associate Director of Audience Services and Community Programs Creative Director to manage Community and Surround Programming, including Flight Nights,
Seed to Blossom, and production-based events such as AfterWORDS, Preview Events, Panels, and more
- Support the Sales Manager in planning and delivering marketing materials throughout the community
- Partner with the Marketing Assistant on off-site event planning and attend tabling events as needed
Team Collaboration
- Attend weekly marketing team meetings and actively contribute to a collaborative, solutions-oriented work environment
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required
- Minimum of 2 years of theatre organization patron services experience, or completion of an apprentice or internship program in a related field
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a small, fast-paced team
- A genuine hospitality mindset with a proactive orientation toward patron engagement and organizational growth
- Ability to thrive under pressure and adapt quickly in a dynamic, production-driven environment
- Genuine passion for theatre, live entertainment, and community engagement
Preferred
- Familiarity with Square or similar POS systems
- Experience managing or coordinating community programming or patron-facing events
- RAMP certification or familiarity with food safety and alcohol service regulations
Skills
- Exceptional patron-facing communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage diverse audiences
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to set priorities, manage competing deadlines, and delegate effectively
- Sound judgment and decisive problem-solving; ability to escalate issues appropriately and include the right stakeholders in decision-making
- Financial acumen including cash handling, budget management, and POS reporting
- A growth mindset centered on patron engagement, earned revenue, and continuous improvement
