Department: Production
Reports To: Shift Supervisor
Overview: The General Labourer performs unskilled labour jobs in packaging and/or processing areas.
Shift AM: 7:00 am - 3:00 pm
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Measure and dump ingredients/product into hoppers of machines and/or disposal units
- Assist the machine operators and packers in performing their duties.
- Clean work area; equipment, floor, steps, tools etc. at end of shift or as required to maintain standards.
- Prepare for the cleaning process ensuring safe handling of hazardous materials.
- Comply with all company health and safety policies and practices including the wearing of PPE, Lockout procedures, GHS (WHMIS 2015) etc.
- Follow HACCP procedures. Complete all forms and records as set out by HACCP-TROPHY Foods Inc.
- Clean and maintain equipment and work area according to company’s GMP’s, sanitation procedures and frequency. Assist Machine Operators in completing all forms pertaining to inventory control.
- Other duties, responsibilities,
and tasks as assigned by Supervisors or Management.
- Additional duties may include:
- Transport raw materials, finished products and packaging materials throughout the plant and warehouse manually or with powered equipment (pre-authorization required).
- Remove filled boxes/containers from conveyors/packaging machines onto pallets.
- Pack product when required into boxes, containers etc.
- Check products and packaging for basic quality defects, report any quality variances.
- Unload containers of raw materials/finished goods and place these products onto pallets in proper pallet configurations.
Experience, Qualifications, and Educational Requirements:
- High school diploma or post-secondary diploma or;
- One to three months related experience or;
- Equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to use power jack is an asset.
Physical Effort:
- Almost continuously engaged in one or more physical activities simultaneously E.g. Walking, lifting, climbing stairs, and carrying heavy objects that weigh between 1 kg and 20 kg, reaching with hands and arms.
- Occasional requirement to lift heavy objects over the shoulder level, see different colours, use hands and fingers to touch, handle, or feel and to push and pull product while hot.
Work Setting:
- Almost constant exposure to factors such as extreme temperatures of 4-44⁰C, humidity, airborne particles, noise level over 85dB and moisture which will cause frequent periods of discomfort.
- There is regular exposure to factors such as height of 7-10m which carry an extreme risk of accident or illness which cannot be eliminated from the job.
Sensory Attention:
- Frequent need to give concentrated attention,
with one or two senses (talk, listen, look) used in co-ordination to ensure the product is prepared according to schedule.
- Ability to apply common sense to problems involving mathematical skills such as adding, subtracting, multiplication, and dividing and written or oral instructions.
- Ability to carry out simple step-by-step instructions.
Mental Stress:
- Work and environment are not repetitious/unchanging.
- There is noticeable pressure from deadlines, production quotas, accuracy or similar demands.
- Bullying or harassment in any form will not be tolerated. Speak with a supervisor if the work or the environment is causing mental stress.
