We are currently searching for a dynamic experienced General Manager for the Sheraton Toronto Airport Hotel & Conference Centre. This full-service hotel with 250 rooms and 26,000 square feet of event space is located 5 minutes away, with shuttle service to and from, Toronto Pearson International Airport. The hotel also has a fitness centre, an indoor pool, restaurant & bar, business centre services, and there are future expansion plans.
Position Profile The General Manager is the “Chief Executive Officer” of the hotel and has full responsibility and accountability for every aspect of its performance. This individual provides strategic and operational leadership to drive revenue growth, increase market share, maximize profitability and deliver strong financial results.
The General
Manager ensures exceptional guest satisfaction, builds a highly engaged and satisfied workforce, and consistently achieves Sheraton brand standards and established performance benchmarks. As the property’s senior leader, the General Manager fosters Atlific Hotels’ vision and values throughout the organization, leads by example, and creates a culture of accountability, collaboration and service excellence. A key priority is coaching, mentoring and developing department leaders, managers, supervisors and employees to strengthen individual capabilities, build an effective leadership pipeline and position the hotel for long-term success.
Interested candidates are required to have full-service experience and have demonstrated stability, abilities and achievements in these key management areas:
Day-to-Day Operations
- Sets the overall standard for operational excellence and holds the hotel’s leadership team accountable for ensuring all departments operate at the highest professional level.
- Ensures qualified and effective department leaders, organizational structures, operating systems and management routines are in place to support consistent execution across Rooms, Food and Beverage, Sales, Revenue Management, Engineering, Security, Finance and Human Resources.
- Establishes clear expectations for property condition, cleanliness, presentation, service delivery and operational readiness, and verifies through regular review and inspection that these standards are consistently achieved.
- Ensures comprehensive standard operating procedures, internal controls, service protocols,
reporting practices and accountability mechanisms are current, understood and effectively applied throughout the hotel.
- Provides executive oversight of operating performance through disciplined review of forecasts, guest feedback, service recovery, staffing, productivity, maintenance, departmental results and business volumes, requiring timely corrective action where appropriate.
- Ensures workforce planning, scheduling, departmental coverage and resources are appropriately structured and managed to meet occupancy, banquet, food and beverage, shuttle and other operational requirements.
- Ensures robust preventive maintenance, work-order management, asset protection and property-condition programs are in place to preserve the hotel, support reliable operations and minimize service disruption.
- Provides senior oversight of renovation and capital projects, ensuring appropriate planning, controls, communication and contingency measures are in place to protect guests, employees, service quality and business continuity.
- Ensures the operational organization is fully aligned with the hotel’s sales and revenue strategies and capable of delivering professionally and consistently on all customer, group and brand commitments.
Financial
- Leads the annual hotel strategic planning process, operating budget, marketing and capital plans.
- Confirms that processes and procedures are in place with proper controls, checks and balances.
- Manages the operational budget and Maximizes NOI through effective execution of sales and marketing plans, GAAP (General Accepted Accounting Principles) management, customer service and effective cost controls.
- Analyzes and critiques results and performance peri, plans corrective actions, communicates such to ownership and relevant stakeholders.
Human Resources and Development
- Ensures Performance Management and Annual Reviews are well documented.
- Hires and supervises leaders in the efficient operation of their respective areas.
- Maintains a positive climate through strong leadership, fair and consistent HR policies, and effective practices.
- Identifies training needs and provides needed resources.
- Ensures coverage solutions in time of manpower shortage and emergency situations
- Oversees the roll out of any Brand and Atlific corporate initiatives.
Relationship Building
- Participates in community affairs and events while maintaining a positive public image for the Hotel and Atlific.
- Leverages relationships and resources with area hotels, owners, regional and corporate offices.
- Encourages open dialogue among all associates and cultivates an environment which encourages employee suggestions and involvement.
Risk Management
- Ensures the health and safety of all Guests and Employees are maintained at all time.
- Ensure and maintain a life safety plan and Emergency Response Team for the hotel.
- Ensures Local, Provincial and Brand compliance with Health and Safety regulations.
Qualifications:
- Full service hotel experience is a prerequisite, preferably in at least a 4 stars environment.
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred, Hotel/Restaurant or Business Administration, or Certified Hotel Administrator (CHA) designation is preferred.
- Minimum 5 years’ GM experience required in a similar environment.
- Management of a top-tier full service hotel brand considered an asset.
- Demonstrated leadership and management skills.
- Proven experience with developing business plans and financial budgets.
- Identifies priorities, plans, organizes and delegates responsibility effectively.
- Excellent communicator and experience with coaching, training and engaging.
- Previous experience in a unionized work environment preferred.
- Experience with renovations, construction projects.
