Job Summary The Driller is responsible for managing drilling operations and supervising the crew on-site. This role requires extensive knowledge of auger drilling techniques and equipment, while ensuring a safe and efficient work environment. The Driller plays a critical role in problem-solving downhole issues and leading the crew effectively.
What This Position Demands The selected Driller must possess and display a strong understanding of geology and Solid-Stem, Hollow-Stem, and Hard Rock coring operations, as well as all geotechnical sampling techniques (SPTs, Shelby Tubes, Denison Sampling, Vane Shear Tests). This position also demands excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt drilling techniques to overcome challenges. A successful Driller is proactive, organized, and capable of anticipating the needs of both the crew and the operation, ensuring smooth workflows.
Communication and teamwork are essential, as the Driller must work closely with the Rig Manager and other crew members to achieve operational goals.
Key Responsibilities
Safety and Compliance:
- Ensure adherence to all safety regulations, company policies, and procedures.
- Conduct safety briefings and training sessions for crew members.
- Report all safety incidents, unsafe acts, and potential hazards immediately.
- Maintain a culture of safety and ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
Personnel Management:
- Supervise and coordinate the activities of the drilling crew.
- Organize crew tasks to ensure efficient and safe operations.
- Mentor crew members and assess training needs.
- Ensure all team members understand their roles and responsibilities.
Operations Management:
- Oversee all aspects of drilling operations.
- Adjust drilling techniques as needed to optimize performance.
- Troubleshoot and resolve downhole problems.
- Ensure accurate record-keeping of drilling activities.
Supply Management:
- Maintain knowledge of required drill tooling and ensure availability on-site.
- Communicate with the Rig Manager regarding tooling needs and inventory levels.
- Monitor usage of supplies and equipment, addressing low-stock situations proactively.
Communication and Reporting:
- Complete Tours and ensure proper documentation of drilling activities.
- Submit all necessary safety paperwork and reports promptly.
- Maintain transparent communication with crew members and the Rig Manager.
Equipment and Resource Management:
- Ensure the proper operation and maintenance of all drilling equipment.
- Delegate equipment maintenance tasks to specific crew members.
- Monitor equipment wear and initiate repairs or replacements as needed.
Continuous Improvement:
- Identify opportunities for operational improvements and efficiency enhancements.
- Foster a collaborative environment where crew members feel empowered to suggest improvements.
- Stay updated on industry best practices and technologies.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of experience running an Auger Rig.
- Able to demonstrate a strong understanding of geology and Solid-Stem, Hollow-Stem, and Hard Rock coring operations.
- Able to demonstrate a strong understanding of geotechnical sampling techniques (SPTs, Shelby Tubes, Denison Sampling, Vane Shear Tests).
- Extensive knowledge of auger drilling operations and equipment.
- Proven experience in a drilling role with supervisory responsibilities.
- Strong leadership and communication skills.
- Relevant certifications (e.g., WHMIS, First Aid).
Earning Potential: $110,000.00 to $185,000.00/Year.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work in various outdoor environments, including extreme weather conditions.
- Capability to lift and carry heavy equipment as needed.
Pay: $55.70 per hour
