What is the project? The Pickering Nuclear Generating Station refurbishment program involves designing and building a new deep-water intake in Lake Ontario to improve the plant's cooling system. This will involve:
A5 km-long tunnel, built by a pressurized TBM (10.15 m diameter slurry TBM);
Two vertical shafts (onshore and offshore);
An offshore modular intake structure, resting on the lake bed.
The project is distinguished by its proximity to an active nuclear site, requiring rigorous standards of safety, planning and coordination.
What you will do: As a Payroll Specialist, you will oversee the full payroll lifecycle for unionized construction employees, covering payroll processing, employee onboarding and offboarding in ADP, employee records management, regulatory and year-end reporting, while ensuring compliance with collective agreements and applicable legislation.
Concretely, your tasks will be:
Manage employee onboarding and offboarding inADP;
Oversea and maintain employee records, including maternity and paternity leave, paid leave, absences, and sick leave, and other union regulated leave entitlements;
Process union payroll in compliance with collective agreements, provincial and federallegislation;
Produce payroll reports and ensure data accuracy across ADP andExcel;
Review time entries and ensure accurate calculation of regular hours, overtime,
premiums, allowances, and union perks
Respond to employee payroll inquiries related to pay, hours worked, overtime, leaves, weather‑related work disruptions, andotherpayroll or time‑trackingmatters;
Review time entries, calculate wages, overtime, premiums, benefits, and finalpay;
Prepare and validate T4 year-end filing
Administer WSIB payroll reporting and accident‑related payadjustments;
Maintainongoing regulatory awareness related to unionized payroll, including payroll and tax legislation, collective bargaining agreements, labor relations requirements, and related HR regulations.
Your skills: Post-secondary diploma or degree in Payroll Administration, Human Resources, Accounting, Business Administration, or a relatedfield;PCP or CPM designation (Canadian Payroll Association) is considered anasset;4-5years of payroll experience in a unionizedenvironment;Strong experience working with unionized employees, including union rules, collective agreements, and laborrelations;Prior experience intheconstructionindustrystronglypreferred;Proficiencyin ADP payrollsystems;Knowledge of Ontario employment regulations (ESA, WSIB) in unionizedenvironments;Strong attention to detail andhigh levelof accuracy.
