The Governance Coordinator works to facilitate the transition of the four Northern Secwepemc te Qelmucw member communities to post-Treaty self-government.

This includes strategic planning for Governance Transition and support for development of communities’ Self-Government vision and processes as they prepare for the end of the Indian Act and the return to sovereign, self governing communities.

The Governance Coordinator will work with the NStQ Treaty Team, community members and community staff of Tsq̓éscen̓, Williams Lake, Xatśūll and Stswecem’c Xget’tem first nations.

Responsibilities

- Contributes overall to development of NStQ communities’ Governance Transition planning.
- Organizes meetings of NStQ community Governance leads and plans events as requested

• Contributes to Communications tools on Governance (booklets, posters, presentations)
- Prepares presentations and briefing materials related to NStQ Governance and Self-Government
- Supports NStQ Treaty Team by providing information and reference material on relevant issues
- Contributes to consultation with members of the community, Leadership, Elders as directed




- Communicates progress to Treaty Team, Leadership Council, NStQ community leaders and members as requested
- Aids in organization of NStQ Leadership Council and transition planning for council
- Organizes training/communications/consultation events concerning NStQ Governance as requested
- Develops and maintains work plans for Governance Transition
- Participates, organizes and presents to Community consultation events as requested
- Attends and reports on scheduled meetings as requested
- Maintains strict confidentiality of Treaty and Governance information as required

Qualifications

- Proven team player

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Knowledge of BC First Nations Governance landscape and Up-to-date-day treaty process
- Planning and Organizational skills
- Event Planning experience
- Analytical Thinker • Knowledge of Secwepemc lands and culture
- Familiarity with BC First Nations history
- Demonstrated understanding of laws, constitutions and legal language
- Strong administrative and time management skills
